It's not unheard of for interviewers to clue in their interviewees about the topics. You see it on talk shows all the time. The host will say to his guest, "Now you and I were talking backstage about [whatever topic]....." The show host has a vested interest in making the show run reasonably smoothly.

But I don't think prez debate candidates need the questions, or even topics, in advance. They generally know what is going to be discussed: the economy, foreign issue of the day, abortion, *** surgeries, etc. It's easy enough for debaters to prepare. Trump is great at talking off the cuff.

The best interviewers will come up with zinger questions and sometimes stump the candidate. A skilled candidate will be evasive and discuss what he has rehearsed.
