He is reminded of that every day on here.
I picked up a 6500 Watt Gen from the Pawn shop for 400$. I should have worked on the hookup last night. It's 15F and 20mph winds here this am. -7F feels like.
Johnny, in an earlier post you told us you look the 7500 watt camping...now you say the 6500 watt is too heavy to get out of the truck.JohnnyYou » 24 Jan 2026, 4:02 am » wrote: ↑ I picked up a 6500 Watt Gen from the Pawn shop for 400$. 23A 240 V continuous.. It will run the water pump. Just getting out of the truck is an issue, I need to make a ramp. I have no one to help me lift it out.
We are looking like less than 1/2" of ice, we may not lose power at all. The winds matter with the overhead power lines.
The conservative talk radio host brushed this storm off as nothing to worry about. This is no joke..There will be loss of life associated with it. But the Heat Waves are the biggest killer.
Beevee has work arounds. You seem to be at a standstill.RebelGator » 24 Jan 2026, 7:23 am » wrote: ↑ Johnny, in an earlier post you told us you look the 7500 watt camping...now you say the 6500 watt is too heavy to get out of the truck.
You just pulled a BeeVee.
tell me why you would have a whole house gen on a trailerJohnnyYou » 24 Jan 2026, 7:56 am » wrote: ↑ I forgot how heavy 7500 Watt machines are. And it is way overkill for camping. But it ain't tethered to the house like @MR-7 's. The farmers are getting rid of their old gen sets..If I was going to do whole house it would have a trailer and a quick disconnect. Trailer is on the get list too.
Portability.. You probably have your own feaking crane and forklift rich guy. I guess some farmers move them from pump to pump for irrigation.
No Johnny...why would you ever, ever, want to or need to move a whole house gen?JohnnyYou » 24 Jan 2026, 8:13 am » wrote: ↑ Portability.. You probably have your own feaking crane and forklift rich guy. I guess some farmers move them from pump to pump for irrigation.
I had a litlle bit of experience with large Mil Gen Sets.. I remember 10kW but they were huge. Maybe they were 100kW. Ran the marine corps camps.
I have always said if you don't like the weather in fl....hang around for another day.
