I wouldn't argue any of that anecdote.

You are saying that whatever business specific to your situation NEEDED "superior personnel". Meanwhile, I think naysayers argue that the "any asshole can do the job" type jobs don't deserve the bump. Perhaps their tolerance for non-fast fast food haphazardly thrown together has tainted the seriousness of the "industry".
IOW What would difference would it make ultimately at lunchtime except higher prices?

The consequence of low expectations of businesses is what makes states **** holes filled with trailer trash. People with intelligence GTFO to states where they can make a living. I was raised in Texas but we were forever renting out our home and leaving Texas for years at a time so the old man could make real money. 

Expecting businesses to pay living wages is what makes states goers.

You can take any state in this union which spent decades at the federal minimum until it finally said no mas and substantially raised its MW, and you will see it go from **** hole to far more prosperous **** hole. 

As badly as the blue states are run and as hard as their governments work to make anyone with any decency flee, they STILL have a higher standard of living and higher property values and bigger tax bases and better education outcomes etc. than the red **** holes that celebrate the virtues of slave wages. 

Your low regard for people in this or that industry simply is not a part of the math equation. It's a complaint without a solution. The math says society at large is more prosperous when bottom tier workers are not paid too little to live on. Miserism begets want. Endemic poverty is the wage of sticking with the federal minimum. One can simply step across a state border from a federal minimum **** hole to a relatively rollicking economy with a state minimum.

AI is such a great tool. Watch this:

I would have to dive a bit deeper into this than I really want. It isn't that I want to argue the "MW is bad" so much as I think there's the Devil in the details. A couple of quick AI questions asked properly can get you results obviously. Things like academics (affects your available workforce), natural resources (do you have anything anyone would buy?), tourism and influx of money or interest from outside, etc. It just seems a trifle more complex when considering regional differences in the mix.
Meanwhile my lazy *** just goes by my living experience of working **** jobs until I broke out myself. Sheer will and determination. I've never earned minimum wage in my life. I've never been in a union. My point being that I've never had a "big brother" forcing my bosses to do anything. This definitely impacts my point of view, no doubt.

Well, again, that is a moral appeal or a political position, and the issue I am raising is one of economics. The phrasing of my questions about the economies and populations of the **** hole states was precisely worded to elicit facts: pure numbers. I cannot make AI fabricate GDP or populations.

That said, AI informs me that Washington State leads the nation in MW rates and business failures. There could be linkage. Everything in moderation, I always say. Except racism.

But there's a flawed human component is the mess too.

Whether or not this is absolutely true, it's a story I heard from a well-travelled American woman translator that I knew where I worked. English-French. (She helped prepare some of our Troglodytes for temporary assignments in French-speaking areas.)
She said that French people take their jobs much more seriously than most Americans. A cultural thing.
So, when a waiter or janitor or fellow engineer seemed aloof or snooty we were to bear this in mind.
They believe all jobs are necessary and have impact. Large or small they still mean something.

This was meant as direct comparison to our American viewpoint. I always found that simplification interesting.
May be that it has changed over the last decade or so of Muslim downgrade...

But anyone with any knowledge of history undertsands that without the French, there would be no United States. Understands that the French were a great colonial power with a storied  and glorious military history.
