You can get rid of MW entirely (think of those immigrant staffed restaurants that pay under the table or employ family members who won't "tell on them") and nothing would change the outcome.

I recall many restaurants, farms, credit unions, and mom and pop shops collapsed in 1929. When there was no federal MW (and only in a small number of states)

Turns out the wealthy parasit3s hoarding / rent seeking has consequences...

@Deezer Shoove

Seems like whatever people get used to they get content with (as much as people ever do anyway).
It's all relative. There's probably "x" amount of people happy or sad or whatever in any given society.

Until there's not... Then **** hits the fan.

I think they're keeping us Americans just out of the fan most of the time.

Everything is contextual. At the end of the day, your position in this thread is that of the man - or, CAPITAL. Mine is that of the worker - or, LABOR. So the jibe did not live as a joke on the french. It lived as a slap at them for having the balls to take on the man, whose interests you are defending.

Yes, the brits hate the frogs and the frogs hate the brits. At the end of the day, brits suck *** and frogs are cool. GENERALLY speaking.

But ugly brits are fun as ****. Their obnoxiousness knows no bounds - fiendishly clever.

Actually, the nazis went THROUGH it. In two spots. and did a pincer movement.

The guns were in concrete and not on a swivel. Surrender or die...

And more productive than yanks in 8, likely. I mean, when it comes to yank workers, there's a REASON we drive japanese in this country. We have a choice. We choose jap. I choose jap. With a J VIN. And **** whatever *** that puts out of a job.

But that is not the issue. the issue of this thread is ultimately where the line is between the legitimate interests of labor and capital - and whether society qua society has legitimate authority to set that line (wage laws).

In your perfect world society (government) sets all the rules.
In my perfect world keep the **** government outta my life.

Nothing's perfect so we piss on each other's shoe about that squishy middle ground.
Seems we both have some of each other's overspray.  ;)

Icertainly respect your right to declare what your perfect world looks like.

I reserve that same right to myself - your encroachment notwithstanding.

I won't argue that.

But you still seem like you've got some of The Man's overspray on ya, too.

The Man hasn't been all that bad to me. I worked and I prevailed.
Once I collected unemployment which amounted to the first half week that I qualified.
Then I got a job.
In my life I haven't heard of anyone collecting a half week beside me.

All in all, The Man has only been Evil Lite to me.

The tax laws in this country are geared to punish labor and reward capital. To what smidgen of a degree laws protect labor, that is all to the good.

I am still working past retirement, on accounta I always did and always will put today smack dab in front of tomorrow. Thank God for my equine constitution. My entire income is all I9 because if it were not, I would have to pay tax on my social. You can collect a million or a billion without being taxed, if it is from capital investment, but if - God forbid - the income is from the sweat of your brow, from honest labor, then your social will be taxed. So I am now a capitalist.

In every minute facet of the tax code, the working man has a target on his back. The working man gives a bigger percentage of his income to the government than any other class of people. And professional liars are well paid to obfuscate that fact. Many a thread on this board has been dedicated to exposing the truth of this.

What little labor laws we have, I generally support. I never say never, except just now. But my first inclination will ALWAYS be to support labor laws. I worked as a roughneck in my Ute, and every element of that job was supremely disrespectful of my life and health. OSHA - God bless them - has put a stop to that ****. Today, it is more expensive to kill a working man than it is to keep him safe. So The Man keeps us **** safe. If not for OSHA, ask me how working men's lives would be viewed by Capital.

Ask me. I **** know. I lived it. I survived it. The word is expendable.

We live in a world of plenty. No man should live in a world of want so that another might live in a world of excess. However it is dressed up, a system geared toward that outcome is unjust. ALL work is honorable and necessary and worthy. Whatever constructions of philosophy are antithetical to that, no matter how crouched in pseudo-morality and bootstrappery, are ****.

That is my stand, and I have every word of that tattooed to my scrotum on accounta that is how I roll.

I never decried the cultural difference being put before me as I trundled off to France.
I thought that was interesting and couldn't wait to see how true it was. For the most part, it was.
Apparent "snooty" people, when viewed differently, were just a bit more serious about doing the job properly.
There are always a few, no matter where, that just work for the pay.
(Kinda like "put today smack dab in front of tomorrow" when you think about it...)

I like your take on the OSHA purpose - more expensive to kill a working man than it is to keep him safe.
My internal conflict is whether it's an OSHA **** or a **** troll at the Canadian border, government people are usually complete assholes. Just like some people "hate ALL cops", an irrational stance, I have a similar sense regarding government **** in business clothes. Not hate but a definite wariness.

That wariness and mistrust of personal motives (badge heavy) impacts my general outlook.
Corporate **** fall into the same category - wielding power or sway over you... yuk.
Some people do it well. Most just play and guess at how to lead, guide, etc.

the universe sustains a perfected balance point life exists with reproductions existing in plain sight eternally separated by their own chromosomes now.

shame this species' population never accepted that possibility daily here. There are plenty of exceptions but they are within the silent majority governed by mal contents globally here every generation gap so far.
