Administrations have long deported certain categories of illegals.

With limits on resources, priorities must be established. Prior administrations prioritized finding and deporting criminals.

Deportations for their own sake is only a metric for administrations which can't perform by historical standards.

I don't recall the protesting back then.

First of all, Rittenhouse did not bring a gun to a protest, he brought a gun to protect himself and business owners from the radical left.  

Second of all, you're correct about the rest.

If you haven't noticed, the flow of illegals at the border has gone down considerably, less to count as "deported"!
