I served over a couple of decades and delayed a time or two.  Also went to armorer school and never was instructed on one.  Never once handled a civilian semiautomatic sports rifle as a my personal weapon.  As a matter of fact of I did not handle one until I was out a few years and never owned one until my brother law passed last year.

So my EXPERIENCE is much different than yours.

The fact of the matter is the weapon you assert was designed for the battlefield was never standard issue to US troops for the purpose of battle.
