The people who are geared for that will be WAY too busy dying to get much killing done.
In a post apocalyptic world, my hens will feed my family - presumably. They free range all day and are safe in the coop at night. So they can feed themselves if the feed store shuts down. But the real question is, will the wild things remain as afraid of humanity after a collapse as they are today? Or will they come brazenly close and make quick meals of my flock?
No one knows that WILL happen in a post apocalypse world, but you can bet that what won't happen is much of anything good. Still, life will go on. Humanity will rebuild. Communities will continue, because it is in the very DNA of humanity to organize communities. We're smaht. Not dumb, like people say.

It will be good to see the animals flourish without the bulk of humanity. There will be plenty of meat to go around. And just plant an apple tree, and that will be fine.
