Our country is a disgrace. If there was ever a time in history that evidenced just how naked the US was swimming this is that time. Hopelessly in debt, 640% debt to GDP, waging wars it cannot pay, meanwhile the common man is suffering under 2.5% official inflation that's in reality 20-40% YoY. Tell again, what has Iran done to the United States that warrants a WWIII/Nuclear war? Disclaimer...I think the soldier could have gotten at least a non judicial punishment [article 15] or worse for making a political statement on the air.

It does my heart good to see that some soldiers [if not most]......GET IT.

I am not familiar with laws pertaining to military service personnel conduct, but would he not be excused due to the fact it was a reporter asking him?

I would imagine making a statement out of nowhere (e.g. going to a political newsroom and making a statement) and being asked his opinion would carry different weights, but maybe that's wrong.

And if so, would saying something like "I voted for Ron Paul" qualify for that penalty?

Talking to a Reporter about politics is exactly what that rule was designed for.
I doubt he got much more than a warning from his C.O.....but I will bet all military Commanders were told by the Secretary of Defense to remind the troops that this is a no no.
