None of the "aftermath" surprises me at all. Why would this not have been considered as
probable collateral damage and "raccoon trapped in a corner" response?

You guys and the "nyeah, nyeah" stuff are scaring the soccer moms. Try to look at the long view. Image

You seem to have an implicit premise that you're not being responsible for. I am going to ask you to correct that.

Is it your thesis that in the hypothetical event that some country started bombing the united states, that country - let's say Russia or China - would be utterly incapable of parading some American expats before their cameras cheering on the Russian or Chinese military? Because if that IS your implied thesis, I think you will agree with me that you are utterly and incontrovertibly full of **** - yes?

And if that is NOT your thesis, then even bringing that **** up is disingenuous and utterly irrelevant to the argument. The argument I have made is that we are klingons, we are the common denominator in dozens of big wars that we fight without bothering to declare and hundreds of small ones that don't even make the news, and that we are MEANT to be a republic at peace. In what way does "There are some people from there that cosign our ****" argue against that case?

You are telling me that all of the expats cheering are not being genuine? Seemed to be from many places.
They weren't exactly being "paraded before cameras" when a news organization told their man to not focus on the cheering crowd. That side seemed to be pushed out of the limelight rather than into a parade.

I'm anti-war. There is no excuse for it. There is only propaganda for it.

The pretense that countries are begging for us to attack them is simply not credible. Iran has bent over backwards for decades, and still we invent reasons to attack them. Hell, Russia petitioned to join NATO. We said HELL no - we need an enemy.

When I say Iran has bent over backwards, I am not denying it has funded freedom fighters that oppose israel and the US. I'm not saying they have surrendered any and all strategic objectives or ceased to pursue those objectives. What I am saying is that they are a member state of the IAEA and have signed treaties allowing generous access to IAEA inspectors. TRUMP withdrew from that treaty - not Iran. And that fact, all by itself, utterly eviscerates the pretense that this war has ANYTHING to do with Iran not getting a nuclear weapon. WE HAD THAT. And we threw that in the bin, so that we could have this war.

If that cackling trollop were president, we would still have this war. It is in the nature of empire to expand or contract. Republics tend toward stability and peaceful relations.

You reference the propaganda on both sides and the confusion thereby generated. I certainly do not disagree. But I can assure you that I am not confused. I understand that we had every assurance against Iran getting nukes, and we said **** that - where's the excuse for war in THIS ****? I can also read a pattern. This country has not known a day of peace in my lifetime. We are the common denominator.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Secondary Sanctions: The U.S. actively targets third-country entities (particularly in China and India) that continue to trade with sanctioned Iranian sectors.
  • FATF Blacklist: As of 2024–2025, Iran remains on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) blacklist, making international financial transactions nearly impossible even for non-sanctioned entities.
  • Humanitarian Exemptions: While OFAC maintains general licenses for medicine and food, banking restrictions and "over-compliance" often hinder the actual flow of these goods to Iranian civilians.

I won't get into a typing exercise about this but I always feel between our barbs that there's a genuine conversation sneaking in. Something I wish there was a lot more of here by the way. Image

If Iran was allowing generous access and allowing full disclosure about true intentions, I don't understand why Iran's "overly enriched" uranium is a factor in our relations with a third party (Russia). Seems like a Club Member ain't acting in good faith and Russia has pretty much validated that by demanding they get the stuff, not us.

Also, bending over backwards isn't what I say includes relabeling suicidal zealots as "freedom fighters". They seem like useful idiots every bit as much as we have here: Gubmints prey on people all the time. You say we do it here. I say they do it there. Tomato/tomahto.
Assuming (again) the news is true about a dumptruck full of enriched uranium (a biggie), silos full of I-hate-Israel-Missiles were in place, tunnels chock full of torpedo and mine-setter boats are now ready to clog the Strait, plus who-knows-what, Iran has a part to play in the propaganda war.

Were they **** with countries around them? Were there protests/demonstrations crushed by a chaotic Iranian government? Etc. etc. Lots of questions. There are a kajillion books written AFTER these global events because the truth in the midst of the fog is lost until some time has passed.
Credible sources probably exist and they will be stand outs, I'm sure. I can wait. Until then, I live in hope that my bad tooth metaphor is kinda close to the truth no matter how much you tell me it wasn't doing anything wrong.

I just don't trust any of the **** simply based "America is always wrong". That's not my go-to position. I'm as sick of another **** years-long war coming as anybody. At the same time, your position is that we need to take stuff (land, treasure, etc.) because we've lost our way and are going broke(r). There's certainly no shortage of ammo for that argument.

Remember the big WMD Iraq ****? That was called reasonable fear and credible evidence... blah, blah, blah. Saddam poisoned tons of his own citizens which only fueled the credibility of the rational response saber-rattlers. Lots of folks (including Iran) were happy to see that **** get his.
Then, magically, we found out he was lying and playing a shell game after the fact.
Instantly, America was wrong, a liar, imperialist, racist. blah, blah, blah...

The John Kerry position - "I was for it before I was against it" rings loudly even 22 years later . . . regarding Afghanistan but it's all the same ****.
People are no **** good.  I am tired of war.  Image

Trump tore up the treaty in2016. It's been ten years.

Were you under the impression that Iran was required to stick with the treaty after we refused to honor it?

Tell that to whatever source you have for the "killing their own people" and "Dared to arm themselves" narratives.

I promise you I am far sicker of it than you are.I don't even TRY to defend it.

Yet so few that are relevant, fewer that are novel.

I never said it wasn't "doing anything worng." I said we had no call to blow them up.

That is not my position. We are rich beyond measure. We don't "need" to be klingons. We choose to be klingons.

Of COURSE he was "killing his own people." They all do that right before we attack them. It's a YUGE hobby of most countries.

Tell that to whatever source you have for the "killing their own people" and "Dared to arm themselves" narratives.

I promise you I am far sicker of it than you are.I don't even TRY to defend it.

See? A typing contest... ;)
I'm already tired.

-

"Did you see it happen?"    Nope and neither did you.

And the stance "We are rich beyond measure."
Tell that to the ones absolutely convinced we are dying while watching economically speaking.
I thought you were one of them actually. I'm relieved.
FOS told me about 2 years ago I had about 10 decent years left...
Apparently the Yellowstone Caldera will swallow the hemisphere figuratively speaking... economic doom.

So, the Kurds din't get kilt by Saddam? The google even says he did.
Anfal campaign was probably bad potato salad at a picnic. That damned desert sun...

And lastly, yes, you can be way sicker than me of the war.
Wear that badge or hoist the trophy.
Doesn't matter that it took a deeper barrel for you to reach your bottom than me.
Your power to damn my opinion via that gravitas is noted. :ninja:

Looks to me like a contest of ideas, not a typing contest.

I don't think your tryping is tired a-tall. I think your ideas are tired and SHOULD be re-tired. They've been boucing around for a long **** time.

You don't know that resources and economies are different things? The continent of Africa is the richest in resources and the poorest economically on earth.

Ecological doom. Your distinctions are hazy today.

Oh, okay - you have ONE (and it's an exceptionally greasy one).

The kurds were killed with the gas we gave saddam. Using saddam as "evidence" for the dozen others we've accused while ignoring where saddam got the gas and who gave the orders is disingenuous.  ONE example does not justify the fact that they say it e.v.e.r.y. s.i.n.g.l.e. t.i.m.e.

You bought it with assad.
You bought it with Putin.
You bought it with kim jong il.
You bought it with kim jong un.
You bought it with idi amin.
You bought it with Gadaffi.
You bought it with Iran.
Let's not forget Fidel. ANd Maduro.
And Noriega. And the Sandinistas.

And you defend that credulity by pointing to saddam - WHO GOT THE GAS FROM US, and used it on people who were in open rebelion, seeking to peel off an ethno-state FROM IRAQ while Iraq was *** deep in a war against Iran at the deep state's behest. That is why he was told to just gas the **** - they were a distraction from the american agenda. Hell, it's quite likely that our own operatives took care of it, with or without saddam's blessing.

And I'm the argumentative asshole. Because I remember these things. I reject the propaganda - outright. It smells. It's noise. You mistake it for signal. And you pretend that a government which SPECIALIZES in creating dictators that run torture states deeply cares about anyone "killing their own people."

Meanwhile, ruby ridge and waco do not matter, nor do philadelphia or kent state or any of the slaughters that our government commits against us through official actions and unoffical actions like MK Ultra mass shooters. 9-11 gets a bye. You know the gov't abetted it, committed it - but that's okay because you have a war for dancing israelis to defend. You are excusing attacks on Iranians who are ACCUSED of behaving like the government you defend actually does behave, as a pattern.

So, we are an evil nation. You are here enjoying it as well.
And you keep telling me what I bought. You didn't see that either yet you claim it.

As your list of grievances grows throughout your entire life, why complain to me that I don't hate enough?
Again, though you claim you didn't, you lump me in with all the others that actually support war.
This is simply because I don't do all I can to "stay informed" about how evil we all are. My anger is at low ebb.
I see enough to know remorseless folks exist all over the place.

ps
What has your superior knowledge (over and above me anyway) accomplished? Besides satisfying my curiosity I'd just be more distrusting than I already am. Seems futile to amp it up another level simply to compete in these typing contests.
So, I am at the wall. You follow this tedious set of lies with a special interest that I do not possess.
My curiosity is at low ebb too.
That doesn't necessarily make me a war monger.

Not asking you to hate - just answering your apologia for war with a firm nuh uh.

I guess there's blame enough to go around.

A bit of moral relevancy will surely restore life to those school children and cure their families' heartbreak.Image

AGAIN, I don't see it as a typing contest. I see it as a clash of ideas. I disagree with the whole blame-spreading thing, and I disagree with assuming a liar is telling the truth this time.

It's not like this is novel in any WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM. This is fiftieth verse, same as the first. Maybe we can meet in the middle, and you can be persuaded to meet my level of outrage on the NEXT war of choice by a peace candidate that drives EVERY CONSUMER PRICE IN THE NATION upward (hide and watch the ripple - it's coming bigly and yugely, and it is going to hurt like hell).

Not a full on monger, no - just an easy mark for propaganda. They're killing their own people, I tells ya! THEY'RE the problem this time. It's not like that other time, or that other time, or that other time.THIS time, they are at fault - not the people dropping bombs in a war of choice. I mean, we HADDA do it. We would MUCH rather have been attacking Cuba or Greenland, but those will have to wait on account of our DOODY in Iran.

I believe you. Propaganda has a way of oozing into every facet of life in Orwellian Murka.
