This is going to be a huge issue in most states, including California. As AI gets more integrated in our daily lives, the pollution coming from their data centers will be enormous. They are working on their carbon footprint, but their demand is outrunning their infrastructure.LowIQTrash » 14 Apr 2026, 10:21 am » wrote: ↑ Contrary to what the retarded conjobz claim, I am NOT a fan of Democrats or even most liberals in office as they have a tendency to pass unwanted spending bills and raise taxes (esp regressive ones that are almost universally condemned by economists).
However, the nice thing about the liberal NIMBY morons...despite the fact they have raised housing prices to astronomical levels...is that they would never allow this BS:

Yes, power plants cause water pollution. So do AI centers. AI uses an incredible amount of power.*Roshambo » 14 Apr 2026, 10:51 am » wrote: ↑ It shouldn’t be
modern data centers use closed-loop cooling systems to efficiently manage heat while reducing water consumption. These systems circulate water or refrigerant through sealed pipes to cool IT equipment without exposing the coolant to air, minimizing evaporation. While some rely on water-intensive open-loop evaporation, many are shifting to closed-loop to reduce water use by up to 70%.
power plants cause water pollution, look that one up
Name one thing I said that is not true. I was born and raised in California. I am with the smart ones who left.
Just watch what happens as these huge data centers are built all around the country and they begin to consume so much electricity that the rates to homeowners near them will skyrocket. They'll be screaming bloody murder in no time, especially in states like California where their poor management already produces electricity brown-outs every summer despite having some of the highest rates in the country!

Data centers are expected to contribute to higher electricity rates in California, with projections indicating that their growth could increase average electricity costs by up to 8% nationally and even more in certain regions. This is due to the significant infrastructure investments required to accommodate their high energy demands, which may ultimately be passed on to consumers.

I hazard a guess the closed loop ones require more expensive maintenance and construction, so the cheap builds are implemented wherever these "low tax" havens don't bother sending regulators to make sure...*checks notes*...the water is filled with strontium*Roshambo » 14 Apr 2026, 10:51 am » wrote: ↑ It shouldn’t be

Bakersfield, California, is one of the most polluted cities in the U.S. due to its high-emission industries, including agriculture and fossil-fuel-based energy production, which trap air pollution in the San Joaquin Valley. The city has struggled with air pollution for years, with the American Lung Association ranking it as the worst for year-round particle pollution.LowIQTrash » 14 Apr 2026, 10:21 am » wrote: ↑ Contrary to what the retarded conjobz claim, I am NOT a fan of Democrats or even most liberals in office as they have a tendency to pass unwanted spending bills and raise taxes (esp regressive ones that are almost universally condemned by economists).
