Get over it. Whether you call an AR 15 an assault rifle or a sporting rifle(I call mine the War Machines) they're here to stay.
I watch a few police shows. In some states they pull over dudes riding around with AR variants fully loaded laying on the seat next to them. You know what they do? They give it back after running the person and the gun. Why? Because it's their right to have that weapon there. No questions asked just a have a good night. Sometimes with a hey,nice gun!
You want to take that aspect of self defense away from law abiding citizens because why? Scared? Foolish? Stupid? It might be one of those guys that stops some whack job from killing you or your family. You never know when a crazy bent on killing will show up. Would you be grateful that a good guy with a gun you hate saves you or will you scream about him having an "assault rifle?"

I personally don't care if it's classified as an assault rifle or not. It has many purposes which I've listed,self defense just being one aspect.
If assholes own AR 15s ,AR 10s or any other model then count me in. I'll be an asshole many times over.
No it's not the same as a mini 14. But then again a Ruger 10/22 isn't either nor is a Remington 1100. Except they're all semi automatic guns. You want all semi auto firearms banned or just the scary looking ones?
As for sales numbers of course the AR 15 wins. It's lighter,easier to work on and parts are basically the same across all manufacturers and easy to obtain. It's why I have a few of them.
You can kick and scream all you want about "assaukt rifles". It's a right,enshrined in the constitution under the 1st amendment. I'll own ARs because it's also a right enshrined in the constitution under the 2nd amendment.
