It's unfortunate you can't explain this concept using upper undergraduate econ terminology (adverse selection, universal pooling equilibrium) b/c the avg LF.net user is not particularly bright...but TikTok explaining it to a presumably high school audience w/ ADHD still gets the job done :die:   :die:

So, in trying to explain the inelasticity of demand you ask them to name a substitute for a kidney transplant and they shoot back

No, ****, the FAILURE OF GOVERNMENT RAN HEALTHCARE IS WAY THE **** OVER YOURS!!!

And like EVERYTHING else you push, FAILURE is the outcome and always WILL BE!!

Britain’s National Health Service (NHS) faces a profound crisis driven by underfunding, staff shortages, and soaring patient demand. Record waiting lists, crumbling infrastructure, and delayed emergency response times have severely eroded public satisfaction and strained the universal healthcare model.

Key Systemic Pressures
  • Severe Backlogs: Millions of patients wait past target thresholds for routine treatments, specialist referrals, and diagnostic tests.
  • Capacity and Funding Shortages: Historic underinvestment compared to other wealthy European nations leaves hospitals short on beds, scanners, and physical infrastructure.
  • Workforce Strain: High burnout rates, unfilled staff vacancies, and retention challenges leave medical teams operating well over capacity.
  • Failing Social Care: An overwhelmed and underfunded social care sector prevents elderly or recovering patients from being discharged, clogging up acute hospital beds.

Government-backed and universal health care systems do work. Nations like Japan, Norway, Singapore, and Switzerland achieve high life expectancies and strong health outcomes while spending significantly less per person than the United States.

Israel has a universal healthcare system established by the National Health Insurance Law of 1994. Every resident is legally required to join one of four non-profit health maintenance organizations, known as Kupot Holim, and is guaranteed a comprehensive, government-subsidized basket of medical care regardless of income or pre-existing conditions.

Israel consistently outperforms the United States on major global health scores, life expectancy, and healthcare system efficiency. Israel features universal healthcare mandated by law, lower infant mortality, and a higher average life span, while spending a significantly smaller percentage of its GDP on healthcare than the U.S

Hey MAGA's you see this. Israel's health care outperforms the USA's and it is government-subsidized as well.

Don't forget, you are paying for Israel's health care as well.

Define FAILED GOVERNMENT RAN HEALTHCARE and the IMPACT it has on THE PEOPLE USING IT FIRST, ****!!

Oh, and ****, there's not ONE single "government ran healthcare" system that IS working as you claim they do. ALL are facing service shortages, understaffed services, delay in service, LONG wait times for services, add your OWN failure here.

PROVE ME WRONG!!

Critics argue that government-run healthcare systems fail due to structural inefficiencies, bureaucratic bloat, and restricted patient choice. Opponents, including policymakers and think tanks addressing legislative actions like those discussed by the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, point to persistent drawbacks in single-payer or heavily state-controlled models.

Core Criticisms and Drawbacks
  • Long Wait Times: State-managed access limits the number of active providers and facilities, leading to delays for elective procedures, specialist referrals, and diagnostic tests.
  • Financial Deficits: High tax burdens and fixed budgets frequently clash with rising medical technology costs, leading to chronic budget shortfalls or rationed care.
  • Reduced Innovation: Centralized price controls and reimbursement caps can lower the economic incentives for pharmaceutical research and medical device development.
  • Bureaucratic Inflexibility: Large government agencies often struggle to adapt quickly to localized health crises or dynamic demographic shifts.
  • Limited Choice: Patients typically face restricted provider networks and have fewer options to select alternative treatment paths outside the state-approved system
