This article describes the many variations of the Colt AR-15 and M16 rifle family of weapons produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company. Weapons patterned on the original ArmaLite AR-15 design

This isn't about taxonomy.

The German original is

Sturmgewehr.....

Loosely

"Assault rifle"

That is what the AR-15 was DESIGNED for.

And it was designed only once, though it has been broadly modified.

AI Overview

The German word Sturmgewehr (literally meaning "storm rifle" or "assault rifle") refers to a selective-fire military rifle that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable box magazine. The term originated in World War II with the StG 44 (Sturmgewehr 44), which is widely recognized as the world's first true assault rifle.

The Sporter is not a select fire weapon so it is not an assault rifle.

Because that feature was "removed" does not make the modified result a melonballer.

You mean changed in basic design (when compared to the M16) so as not to be a machine gun.

Post this armory definition.  And tell me, when did you graduate the US Army Armorer training class?  I did in 1994.

So you are declining to confirm the details of a letter you insist is evidence of something vague.

And declaring victory.

How many families?

   Keep on digging.
 AR15s arent M16s.
If they were then I'd own a bunch of assault rifles. As it is I only own a bunch of semi auto ARs which aren't but look like assault rifles.
  It's that simple.

Listen.

This isn't about Feelings, however strongly they are held.

It is about the facts.

And we can distinguish one from the other by what confirms them.

When you admit what it is...There was a disabled M 16 and a Sporter.

Now make your **** point without a question.

An M16...

What the **** does an M16 have to do with approving a sporting rifle with a "unique design specifically developed for the civilian market"?
