No they did ILLEGALLY gerrymander the districts.
They corrected what was a ridiculously partisan gerrymandered map.
And thanks to that I now have a Democratic Congressman.
The GOP appealed the decision to redraw the map to the SCOTUS and the high court rejected their plea.

The Constitution gives legislatures the power to draw districts, and I don't know why SCOTUS declined to hear the case.
They can only take so many cases, or maybe that squish Roberts caved again.

How Democrats Broke the House Map Republicans Drew

Republicans routinely have been over-represented in Congress when you compare their share of the vote to their share of House seats won.

Since 2000, Democrats have only won the House when they won a majority of the vote nationwide, as they did in 2018.

Republicans have been able to do more with less, securing House majorities while winning less than 50 percent of the vote in four elections since 2000. In 2012, Republicans won a House majority even though their candidates won fewer votes than Democratic candidates.

Democrats have faced an uphill battle in the House since a Republican wave in 2010 gave the GOP control over drawing congressional maps in a majority of states.

While Democrats often tallied huge margins in urban districts, many suburban districts have been just out of reach for their candidates.

A Brennan Center analysis of the 2012 election showed that in states where Republicans controlled redistricting, their candidates won 53 percent of the vote and 72 percent of the seats.

That year, Republicans won 48 percent of the vote nationwide while taking 54 percent of House seats.

In 2016, they won 49 percent of the vote and 55 percent of the seats—a 6 percentage-point gap.

Poll was only 1000 people and conducted before the shut down. I believe the results would be different if conducted today with a larger sample size.

Which has nothing to do with it. The Constitution doesn't say anywhere that courts can re-draw districts on that basis; only that legislatures do so.

As i thought, Democrats oppose 9 to 1 remains unchanged. Support for the wall is increasing among independents and Republicans. Still not at a majority yet but the needle is moving in that direction.
