Both. Politicians seek campaign contributions and by nature government expands its power.

Businesses often seek favors and protection.
A quick lesson:
From you? In what, idiocy? :\
The government needs corporations to provide jobs to gain tax revenues.

The corporation needs the government to provide an educated and skilled labor force, a sound infrastructure to operate with and a pool of consumers with spending ability.

Corporations need laborers to produce the goods and consumers to purchase them. They are often one in the same.

Laborers and consumers need corporations to provide them with jobs and consumables. They also need the government to protect them from corporate abuse of their participation in the cycle. As the capitalist snake has a natural taste for its own tail and will consume itself, at it's own peril, corporations also need the regulations imposed upon them to protect themselves from themselves. They know this but fight it, as the child does, his serving of broccoli.

It all works until the corporations run out of jobs, find more advantageous labor elsewhere or are left unregulated.

Here we are. Western capitalism is broken. What survives of it is mostly limited to Wall Street transactions and small Main Street businesses trying to compete with Walmart, Target, Kroger, etc. Large corporations subsidized by the Federal government. Rid ourselves of these big competitors and the subsidies become unnecessary. Small businesses compete with each other for labor and consumers.

Free enterprise reins once again.

If the best you can do is google a definition, you have no business being in a discussion about capitalism.
It isn't Capitalism that's broken, moonbat.

It's that leftist big government policies have crippled the incentives to engage in it.

As usual, you don't have the slightest idea what you're babbling about.

You're a Booze-soaked Buffoon OZ... You openly stated you're personal choice for 2016 is Liz Warren---yet today you actually claim you Voted Repub ??? You have in fact also tried to position yourself as independent when it suits.. Your political conviction is as interchangeable, ludicrous & convenient as your confused Nationality identity crisis... You're clearly a creature without any conviction, true belief or a backbone.
I voted Republican and will vote Republican in 2016, despite my preferences. And no, I didn't claim it today. I claimed it last Monday, before the results were in.

I have one overriding conviction now, supported by the full breadth of my beliefs and the strength of my backbone. I want to see the entire government turn Red. All three branches of Federal government and every state.

I want you to have what you and the other Nig blamers have been clamoring for. Control. I want you to have it all. Destroy every Dem out there. No say for those whipped dogs. None at all. Everything that comes to pass will be yours to own. 8 years is good, more if need be. I want the US to crumble like a cookie in the hands of an impatient monkey.

In ten years, I want to vote for a 3rd party candidate of my choice and have it count. As long as the corporate loving right wing bullies and suck up, ball less wimps are steering the ship, the country I love will never rise above the ignorant minority.

I can count on you assholes to vote Republican with me, right?

And for the record, though your homeschooled analysis of me is humorous, you don't know me. Never will. I'm so far ahead of you, you might as well stop and enjoy the scenery before its gone. By the time you get where I am, they'll be confiscating your property and educating your children in a Christian run internment camp.

I'll stop by and give you a cookie. We can thank Jesus for the end of those **** Republicans and their sorry-assed Democrat dogs.

How does government expand its power through campaign contributions, ball licker?

Are you sure you don't want to revise that answer?

Or maybe you'd just rather avoid having to answer. I can understand that and expect you will scurry away from it like a rat from a stick.

You're a liar OZ and everyone other than the other suck-up Mods & Libs on this thread has seen it repeatedly... You're like a bad imitation of a Charlie Crist or Arlin Spectar... You hide rather than take your lumps, and try to weasel into the safe position where you won't have to stand for or defend any position... You're a drunk--coward, and laughed at.

You obviously can't tell the difference between silly rhetoric and reality.

I have yet to see the slightest sign of your supposed intelligence and education.
You're right on that score. The least intelligent and uninformed segment of the populace went out and voted on Tuesday. Fortunately or unfortunately, it gave credence to the idea that stupidity cannot be underestimated and, left unchecked, can prove dangerous for those who know better.

Wake up you 65% with a better than average IQ. The lower 35% will be running the show soon.

After the first generation e-cigs were shown to help smokers quit at rates three or four times better than any drug, patch available on the market. This created an unholy union arrayed against the fledgling, predominately mom and pop, ecig cottage industry. The FDA tried to ban ecigs as drug delievery devices, while big tobacco tried to convince people that switching from their cancer sticks to inhaling radiator fluid was stupid idea. They spent millions on a disinformation campaign. Big pharma is also a player trying, with the FDA, to label ecigarettes as drug delivery devices and subject them to huge taxes and required them complete millions of dollars worth of blind and double blind tests to prove effectiveness.

This is not the way capatilizm is supposed to work. A superior product, a better mouse trap, is being attacked and buried by the lethal tobacco industry and government agencies allegedly functioning in the publics best interest. Now that ecigs are here to stay big tobbaco have entered into the market place with inferior hardware. They have purchased some of the more experienced small juice production businesses. Their next move is "THINK OF THE CHILDREN". They are moving to ban online sales, ensuring that gas stations and wall mart are the places people can buy their inferior product. A product I believe is delibrately designed to provide a inferior experience to lower the conversion rate of smokers to vapers.
It is not a bad thing to require companies to do double blinding testing to prove their product actually works. That's pretty reasonable. You cannot tell if it is a superior product if there's no tests done to prove it. Products that dispense nicotine ought to be regulated.

Ya notice you cannot refute me, dimwit?

All you had to do was name ONE CAPITALIST NATION that doesn't redistribute the wealth and have a welfare state attached. BOOM! I would have been proved wrong.

Instead, you said that stupid **** - waaaagh! Up is down! I'm getting confused! Waaaagh!

Straighten yourself out and square yourself away, dimwit. Your confusion is YOUR problem.

Not according to the actual definition, moonbat.

What you refer to is a corruption of Capitalism.
All that's missing is one example of "real" capitalism.

I am going to tell you something simple and elegant and true, in full confidence that golden words will not profit you: A thing is what it does. If you build bridges, you're a bridge\ builder. If you hunt gazelles on the Kalahari, you're a carnivorous predator. If you fix cars, you're a mechanic.

And you're not a lion or a wrencher or a bridge builder because I say it. You are what you are because YOU DO IT.

Capitalism is what it does. If you name 30 capitalist nations, the behavior you pretend is unnatural will be right there operating in all thirty. If you name forty, then forty. Shakespeare said, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."

Things are not the stories we tell. Things are the actions they undertake and the effects they have. If you rob stores, you're a robber. The cry, "Robber isn't ME! It's a 'corruption' of me - I'm actually an honest man, when not corrupt!" will not impress the parole board. Or a second grader.

Capitalism is a amoral, greedy, selfish predator that will eat it's food right away and starve b4 it let's anything breed more food.
It lives for now, not tommorrow.
Get as much as you can, as quick as you can, and screw everyone else.
That's why it needs to be on a short leash and slapped every now and then.
