Golden retrievers BRED WELL, not by irresponsible breeders,are SWEET SWEET Dogs but they are dumb as a post and will actually HELP robbers carry your TV from your home. Neither one of those breeds have ever been on my radar.
They would not fit well with my lifestyle.

Blood lines from Canada, east and west coast US.
They've all had some some recent European blood, some more than others.
Recent, like within 3-4 generations or less.
Personalities vary widely. From aloof to cuddly.
They've all been fairly intelligent.

adorable... I have a mini German Schaunzer? so hand some.. do you know long ago poodles were bred with these.. It keeps their joints warm in cold water.
Also, that cut is required in the conformation ring.
Right now Vinny is in a puppy cut.
It could take up to 2 years for his full adult coat to come in.

I understand. All dogs have their upside and downside and having a protective dog has its risks and responsibilities. Its all about what dog FITS you not which is a better dog breed, For a few years there the dog breeder periodicals warned about overbreeding of Goldens and them getting neurotic and being one of the breeds that did more fear biting than most. I also had a female pit in my home for 8 years. Never once worried about her over-using her natural gifts. But always had confidence - with reason - that she WOULD use them when appropriate.
She was protective, intuitive, responsible and ever-present. No need for a gate or a fence - though I had them. She wasn't a clock watching dog, looking to punch out and go exploring. She was 24/7/365 on duty. And this was in Vegas - where such services are extremely valuable.
My home did not fit the profile to attract home invaders - a perennial danger in the mean streets of las vegas. So even without that dog, I'd have been an unlikely target. With her, even more so. She was a land shark. She sold me on owning bitches rather than male dogs. Better animals, for my money. More loyal and more accountable.

A good buddy of mine just took home a Dane puppy - his second, - from a super responsible breeder. He's stoked.

I remember my other older dog.... we brought the puppy home... poor older dog?... very serious dude.. He decided he would live on top of the furniture? to be safe? from the puppy.. silly violent puppy? Bite like an aliigator?
later on.... after the ol dog got over his trauma..
He raised him.. I saw him take that puppy in the yard.. and show him how to pizz? They luv each other till this day.. ol man... and the baby..
