You don't need the kind of music class you were in back in school. You've got Youtube.

There's a zillion guitar lessons on any song you want to learn how to play on Youtube. You can even slow the song yer learning down to make it easy. There's probably a video or two that shows you how to hold and use a pick.

Now all you need Smitty is this guitar...        Image

Maybe you could make yer own guitar while listening to the drums and bass rhythm section in this song.

Then grab yer guitar and listen to the bass to determine which chord you should play.

If you hear the bass playing the A note (5th fret on the low E string on the guitar) then you need an A chord of some sort...like A maj...A minor...A7th...A okinawa or rancho cucamonga.   (Just kidding about those last two)   Image

Smitty...there's something you should know. You don't have to be an expert yer first day on guitar.

Use Youtube to find lessons on songs you like...just copy exactly what they are doing...in time osmosis will teach you stuff you didn't even know you were learning.     :)

You could even learn this song...I think it's "Fly Me to the Moon".

You don't have to know one stinking thing about music.  Just visually copy what the guy is playing. You may only learn to connect two or three chords over a month or more...but it will happen. And when you become a rock star don't forget us little people here.     Image   Image

Thanks, but believe me when I say I'm a hopeless case.. lol.. I always wanted to be like this.. now look at them yo-yos, that's the way you do it, play the guitar on the MTV.. but I was good at economics at shool so I got a white collar job and it became 9 to 5 (Dolly Parton) instead.. but who knows, maybe I will give it a try when I retire, should be fun..

I sort of learned the intro to "money for nothing" a long time ago.  It's a tricky lick but it's also cool.    :)

Let me torment you a few seconds more. Notice when this guy is playing the intro to "Money for Nothing"...near the end of each segment he taps a harmonic on the 5th fret. It happens so fast it's hard to keep up with until you've grinded it into yer head. I found that to be the toughest part while still flowing with the remainder of the lick.   Listen to the back ground in light speed and you'll hear a tiny high pitched note (dot).   There...that should make it easier!    Image

Remember that harmonic note/dot sound I mentioned in an earlier post?

This chick makes it stand out a little more. Find the note I'm talking about first, and then you can stare at her boobs.    Image
