For about 18 months I wrote for Hellmark - no joke. 

I sold greeting cards under that banner, until I received a cease and desist from big daddy. My attorney laughed in my face and told me to walk away.

Changed the name of the company, and sales went in the toilet. I guess their claim that I was profiting off the trademark had some validity.

The rate I send out cards I still have some from the 50's.
My circle of deserving humans is very small...

I have a rule - I only keep memories, no memorabilia. I like to travel light. I don't even keep used passports.

I DO remember my first card. On the front, it read,

I have no aptitude for poetry so I'm easily impressed.

I would have gotten about 3/4 through  the first paragraph, stanza, group o' lines and quit.
Can't write ****.

I am the opposite - I have a great facility for poetry. I have written sonnets. And I can riff limericks like a rapper spittin' rhymes.

The poem I wrote for my first greeting card was written of a piece, to entertain friends, after a new comedy club I was launching had an unexpectedly disastrous first night. We had left the venue and were walking down the road. They were offering commiserations of the "buck up, young man" sort, and I just rattled off the poem, precisely as I presented it to you - no scribbling involved. 

They were so pleased with it that I thought, why not - and Hellmark was born. I had about twenty twisted cards in the line when I was brought to the attention of the big boss man - likely by a miffed recipient of one of my cards. 

Another of my cards had a starburst hole in the center, with instruction to place one's thumb through the hole from the back of the card, then open. When opened, the thumb went through spread *** cheeks, with the legend: "Just wanted to get it out of your *** for a while."

Love it!  I've often wished there was a company making more realistic greeting cards than Hallmark!  My own idea was to make them with an assortment of dirty limericks that many people would love.
