I have never heard of that experiment.

this is one interpretation of the experiment and not one that many scientists agree with. But he is correct that you could Sort-of make a case for it based on the results of the experiment. 

Problem being that undermines the entire scientific method so we would have to throw all science away...including that experiment

I know it's just an interpretation, I take it on faith, as one must with all existential beliefs..

However, I will try to answer the question. Yes, it has to. Not hearing it seems irrelevant. Sound obeys laws. If the tree fell in a vacuum, then no, it didn't make a sound. Sound needs a medium to travel, which on Earth is the atmosphere around us. So you may as well ask "If a tree falls in the woods absent of surrounding medium, did it make a sound?"

It's a fascinating experiment. Just search double slit experiment. It's everywhere. The experiment lead to the question if light are a series waves or particles. Check out the uncertainty principle also. I spent a whole semester in college using the Schrödinger equation. Mind blowing.
