Antibodies not testing positive doesn't mean you don't have resistance, if you were infected mildly or a long time ago. You probably wouldn't test positive for polio antibodies either. T-Detect is a T-cell immunity test that can tell if your immune system has a memory of it, even though an antibody test may not reveal it. Elderly that were exposed to the Spanish Flu in 1918 still exhibited T-cell immunity to the Spanish Flu in the last couple decades.

I know responding to you is a mistake.  Pandemics are a numbers game.  You try to save as many as you can.  I know for a fact that scientists and technicians worked long hours and skipped time with family to work on these vaccines.  Their work was based upon the work they've done before.  And they did everything in their power to reduce the risk of serious side effects.
