I'm watching nascar from the LA Coliseum.  They have a bunch of stupid rappers.  One is singing through the halfway point of the main race.  They actually took a break halfway through the race to show this idiot rapper.  Friggin idiots.  

 

There was nothing wrong with it.  They took a break at halfway because it was not a season points paying race, there were  no pits due to the size of the track, so they gave the teams an opportunity to make adjustment.  Additionally, that is a brand new car design, first time under race conditions.

Plus, the people in attendance enjoyed it.

Suburban youth imitation of the thug lifestyle is endemic. Perhaps gang banging can be understandable for a desperate, poor, and hungry ghetto resident seeking protection and family belonging in light of their unfortunate circumstances. It's indefensible from rich Suburban kids. Rap drives and promotes these behaviors.

nascar is alienating their base.  They're trying to appeal to a demographic that hates them.

The 1960's were undeniably tumultuous, because of the unwinnable and eventually despised war in Vietnam and the Civil Rights Movement.
The 1950's were essentially a decade of Cold War fear and  societal boredom.
