That means Musk has reinvested his wealth into the public interest.  Seems like a good service to me.
My understanding is that he is taking it private. If so, that weakens any public claim to prevent censorship. The same public policy exists, but his case is a bit stronger as a private enterprise as opposed to a public one.

Surely you can appreciate the irony of the people complaining about Musk buying Twitter are the same people driving a Tesla. :)

A man allowed to do such things - I said it: allowed - is no friend of freedom.

Look. Musk seems a wonderful fellow, based on PR and recent utterances. But he is one of the ruling class - the do nothing elite, - on a mission of diversion, giving the right false hope. Every minute wasted cheering for deus ex machina diversions is a minute NOT spent productively.

Name a product or venture that Musk is associated with which has ever made a penny by providing consumers with value, and I might amend my argument. Don't say a word about Tesla, though - it's a money loser, if you take away the free money from tax subsidies and carbon credits.

The problem here is that Musk has taken total control of the “digital public square” ostensibly in defense of free speech - but at the same time removed a system of checks and balances that also protected free speech.

Twitter used to have shareholders, and as such it was a public entity regulated by the SEC.  Twitter rules used to be an amalgam of the majority shareholders ideas, balanced by government watchdog agency.  Now it’s just Musk.. in a stroke he has taken the system of checks and balances over the public discourse and replaced it with a dictator - himself

If I'm not mistaken GAB SOCIAL is run by Andrew Torba and not by committee.
In spite of being under constant attack / sabotage by free speech / truth hating Liberal Fascists ....Torba does a great job of "Keeping GAB True To Form"
I would be surprised if Twitter becomes as "liberal" as GAB is in terms of free speech..but we'll see soon enough.

"My understanding is that he is taking it private."

That's my understanding as well.  We won't know how he'll actually run Twitter until he's been there a while.

I was never a follower of Musk until he bought Twitter. Now I'm hoping for the best. If Twitter had not been in the business of censorship many more people would have been aware of the NY Post report about Hunter and his laptop before the 2020 election. It would have changed the outcome of the election which literally changed the world.

Approx. 13% of the people who voted for Biden said they would not have voted for him had they known about Hunter's behavior. The MSM actually lied to the public by way of omission...and they're still doing it.

Twitter also deleted a speech by Trump concerning J6 telling his supporters to go home and be peaceful. Twitter played a huge roll in undermining the election and our democracy.

Those are some of the same people who want only their voices heard and no one else. It's called, "undermining our democracy".

It's very clear just how important Twitter WAS to the left.

I don't trust Elan Musk anymore than I ever did Trump since his introduction as a media darling back in the late 80's. I voted for trump twice 2016, 2020 and if he runs in 2024 a third time for one reason, lesser of evils option.

Dishonesty can be compromising, corruption doesn't tolerate honesty anywhere.

I believe Musk is a trojan horse, diverting attention from useful actions with an ersatz deus ex machina mirage.
He's obviously not anti large government but he has a history of being pro speech. Even speech that might hurt a feeling or two. I don't see him as a savior for the first ammendment but perhaps he can reverse the direction Twitter has taken over the past 6 years.
