D D pays Colt a license fee.

You are correct that they don't license the name for the rifle.

That said, they suspended the manufacture of AR-15, in order to satisfy MILITARY backlog.....for those production lines.

Colt is the sole manufacturer to brand a weapon AR 15.  Plus, you argued the DDM4v7 is an M4 variant.

The AR 15 was designed to function as an assault rifle. The round was specifically adapted for the weapon and chosen for its ballistic characteristics.

The AR-15 was designed to be an assault rifle. To accommodate its design AND purpose, Stoner developed a specific round with specific properties desirable in an assault rifle.

If your interest was in "sport" or "subsistence varmint hunting", you would only sell AR 15s configured for the .223.

Now post the model the kid in Texas used.

One correction.  The semi auto version is was not designed to be an assault weapon.

The round was designed to accommodate the purpose of the design of the rifle.

That purpose is to kill or disable as many breathing things as possible within a determined radius.

It has nothing to do with any sport.

An AR 15 semi auto bolt carrier group does not have that lug. In fact, it’s cut off. This results in a lighter weight BCG and that’s the primary advantage of semi-auto BCGs. At least it was way back before every company out there produced lightweight full auto rated BCGs.

And you learned that the original AR 15 had a different BCG than the Stoner Design.

I've said that the AR 15 rifle was designed for a specific, entirely non-civilian, purpose.

Though some people slap AR15 on anything, it technically refers to any firearm based on the AR 15 DESIGN.

To further the disassociation from civilian use, the platform is designed to use a SPECIFIC round, maximizing its military function. In fact, the round is even so labeled.

There is no discreet DESIGN for semi auto AR 15 style firearms, they use the Stoner design, with certain modifications.

This constitutes a VARIANT, NOT a DESIGN.

You've argued that the M4 is not based on the AR15. This is comically uninformed as the M4 is a variant of the M16.

Period. End of story.
