A while ago on the .org a poster that I can't recall laid out numerically how much a person's vote counts for. It was a measure of voting population divided by electoral votes. Yes, it did show that WY citizens get proportional more influence that CA and so on. However, the differences were pretty minute. Besides, it helps to have differing perspectives. Life is different in Thermopolis, WY than in NYC..

Yeah, that has always been my argument. I have lived in the most “City of the Cities” in NYC. I have lived in the burbs. I have lived in rural Al. I have lived in Alaska. And now I live in Hampton Roads Va in the burbs where 5 minutes one way is urban and 5 minutes the other is rural. I have also been to 48 of the states. I find the whole popular vote schpiel to be little more than someone being a sore loser. HRC lost... it happens. If there was no EC.. presidential candidates would only really care about 16 states. Win most of those 16 most populous and a win is highly probable. Being the afterthought does not exactly stir up a bunch of civic pride.

I use Va as an example. Much of this state is rural/suburban and those areas lean conservative. We have a similar dynamic in Nevada. 2 of the 17 counties account for 85%of the population and Clark County (Las vegas) accounting for 66% of the state's population. For senate or Preisident.. there really is no reason to campaign anywhere other than Vegas.

there is a physical flaw in your post? Take a large agricultural population with fewer voters than a small urban state that can out vote the rural population every election. Guess why democracies fail as fast as dictatorships do?

The Electoral College is going nowhere. The Federal Government does not and will never have control over this. Republicans are gaining rapidly in popularity. Electoral votes in Wyoming count 1 for every like 300,000 people, while in Calif Electoral votes count for like one in every 600,000.
Not a fair balance.
If the Electoral vote balance of Calif was Equal to the Electoral votes of Wyoming, Calif would have TWICE as many Electoral votes as they do now.
