They would wonder at our fundamental lack of character, and our refusal to take the appropriate steps to provide for security for our schools.  They would be sick at heart to see so many Americans abdicating their rights and freedoms in hopes of being made "safer" as someone else protected them... because they refuse to take responsibility for protecting themselves and their own kids.

I'm old enough to remember when kids were taught how to responsibly coexist with firearms, and kids would bring rifles to school for the purpose of hunting small game for the family stewpot on the way home after school.  There was a school rifle team.  Guns were prevalent... and there were no mass school shootings.

Benjamin Franklin spoke of trading liberty for security, and the consequences of doing so... but we're doing it anyway.

People use AR 15 style weapons for hunting, competition shooting target shooting and home defense. Not sure how effective thatbis for home defense but they do.

It has NO civilian "purpose".
