Ok, here's my solution:

• Weigh 6 on one side and 6 on the other
• Eliminate the 6 that are the heavier side
• Now, from the lighter 6, place 3 on one side of the scale and 3 on the other side
• Eliminate the 3 that are the heavier.
• Take only two of the marbles from the 3 remaining and place one on each side of the scale
• If the scale balances, then the one you didn't weight is the light one; if one side or the other is out of balance, then the lighter side gives you your answer.

You fell into the same trap, weighing 6x6 does not give you any information. Because remember, you have to figure out if the last marble is heavier or lighter. And you just wasted one of your 3 weighings.

c'mon you can't give up that easy! You're a smart dude! Just think of it logically, and take it step-by-step. 

You're not going to start with 6x6, and obviously you're not going to start with 1x1 or 2x2... or 5x5... so that leaves either 3x3 or 4x4 to start...

Nah, what helps is not breaking my head over it and having some fun dealing with the issues of the day... lol... I'm not sure if you get that one... but it is funny....

I didn't quit, I found a logical solution for your puzzle... and you will provide the answer if it's the correct one or not... in six days...

Did you cheat? Because it awfully early to have an answer... :-) You're not that smart! 
 

You have to put your answer out there, step by step. jus sayin...

sorry, you don't have a solution, otherwise you would post it. If you're gonna play that game, i'll hold off on the solution. i'm not gonna give it up to peeps that can't figure it out... 

what's the purpose of a puzzle if you can't give the answer after a week?

I thought about it some more and since it makes my head hurt I came up with another logical solution... it can't be done without knowing if that one marble is heavier or lighter...you put that in just to mess with peoples heads... but of course you would never do such a thing... right... lol...

That's a good question... it would make you look very silly if you couldn't come up with an answer for your own puzzle...

But it seems I was a bit unfair by accusing you of messing with my head, I thought about it a bit more and there's indeed a solution...

You take 6 marbles and put 3 of them on each scale, if they weigh the same then different marble must be one of the other six...

Then you take 3 marbles of the pile with the different one in it and put them on each scale.. together with 3 each from the pile with has the normal weight... that gives you 3 marbles with the different one in it and it tells you wether it's lighter or heavier...

The last step is the same, take two marbles of the 3, if they weigh the same it must be the last one...

I admit it, that made my head hurt... but it didn't take me 7 hours...

If it took me 7 hours, and i'm not stupid... it should take you at least that amount of time :-)
