Well if you have a chronic news habit like me you are aware of contemporary France they guard their culture like a castle. They have a council to remove foreign influence on their language. They also limit foreign players on their soccer teams and racially attack those who are. This is commonplace and I believe started when Gaul became the Kingdom of France. Of course the notions of ancient ancestors probably exist. The Japanese are even worse. Don't try speaking French around your average French person. They hate that.

Who knows how many were turned around.
This was during a time when the USA needed to add muscle to it's work force. There was a wealth of very trainable and motivated people who were for the most part "TURN KEY / SKILLED LABOR READY"

My experience of the French is quite the opposite. What they find rude is when you DON'T attempt French. The minute you DO approach them with even the most ugly attempt at their beautiful mother tongue (that would be MY French I'm talking about), they respond quite pleasantly and quite fluently and helpfully in English. If, on the other hand, you approach them in English, they consider you rude and pretend not to speak it.
I have found the French to possess both the warmth of their Gaelic heritage and the sophistication of their - well, their FRENCH heritage. It's the english who are pigs and xenophobes - the French are merely good stewards of a heritage worth preserving.

Yes, I have been to France. Lovely, warm, helpful people.
Paris reminds me of Manhattan: bad rep, completely undeserved - wonderful people.
London, OTOH... What a **** city THAT **** hole is. England is likely full of wonderful folks. But you would never know it, if you judged by the human **** that is London.

I love the French - but I can't go there. By American standards, the French tend to suffer from shower and hygiene deficits. Women are like cats. When they are clean and well groomed, they are an absolute delight to be around - just marvelous creatures. But when they are dirty - even if it's not their fault...
