It's only as embedded as one wants it to be. Constantly focusing on race and historical injustice is a sure way to fail at life. Took Vietnamese less than a generation to go from boat people despised by many Americans to upper middle class business owners. Do you think they would have had the same success if they used the war as an excuse? Good point! But they were never lynched, and harrassed like Blacks have been, and there are a lot more Blacks than Vietnamese. Same goes with the very dark skinned East Indians who have assimilated into our society with no drama, no burden to us, very little help, no special laws to protect them from criticism and with no criminality that is to speak of.

Perhaps its due to the fact that we only let the best, brightest, and most fortunate members of their society in America. This is not indicative of the vast problems of India itself due to East India Company colonialism. You can say the same thing for the former enslaved in America. Still, finding solutions to these problems failed during the 60s and 70s and caused more problems while solving some. I'm kind of a Reaganite on this one too, believing it is mainly a matter of the individual and personal responsibility no matter who you identify as.

Well you need sponsorship or apply through an application process for a Green Card. This usually allows only the top candidates into the process for US citizenship. Asylum seekers are also allowed and this is a common way for Ukrainian refugees to get into the US currently, Many south of the border have raised reservations on this at the Summit of the Americas recently and some even boycotted. Notice this is an application process and not a lottery although that might exist in some form I'm not aware of. Green card link here along with other useful resources from the Department of Homeland Security.
