You have to figure that out philosophically. At least when you are theorizing about justice itself. It's not really punishment but when to distribute the punishment. There are many forms.

title of this thread asks what justice is? Correcting errors committed so far where most won't be repeated again until extinction arrives.

When to use stern language vs when to administer a beating...

It's very easy to "distribute" a talking-to punishment. The other, not so easy.
So, yes, it's about the punishment.

So, far you have defended maiming/crippling a person.
Now you say the punishment is merely an afterthought.

At least you attempted to veer back toward a Theory of Justice...

...just a thought...'justice' is an idea/ideal... like 'beauty', 'truth,'...it lies in the eye of the beholder...you should have learned this back in high school...

...furthermore, you'll never have time to learn about important, objective things like (((((THE MONEY))))))  when you waste your time on subjective things like 'justice'...furthermore, i don't think a person as ignorant as you about 'monetary injustice' is fit to conduct a thread on 'justice'...you have a HUGE hole in your 'worldview' ...  word....

I don't see what your problem is with the SC decision.  You're free to support abortion if you like, and if the majority of people in your state feel as you do, you've got no problem!  Your state is now free to be as strict or as lax with the laws they impose, even to the point of making abortion readily available and free to any woman right up to the point of birth and even after birth for any reason, as many Democrats support.  We're watching brain-dead liberals in Vermont, for example, attacking their state capitol, DESPITE THE FACT THAT VERMONT ALREADY HAS PASSED FREEDOM TO ABORT LAWS FOR THEIR STATE!  So what more do these morons want from their state legislators when there's nothing more they can possibly do?  Or are they just seeking another opportunity to vandalize, loot, and destroy their own neighborhoods as they did in the summer of 2020?

And if the majority in your state do NOT want unfettered abortion, why should they be forced to accept abortion the way YOU want it?  Suppose your state decides that it's legal for a birth mother to have up to a week to decide whether or not she wants to "abort" her week-old baby after birth?  Is THAT something you'd also support or would you say THAT is going too far?

The Roe decision was NEVER based on the Constitution, and even Ginzburg acknowledged that.  And that fact should have been clear to anyone who has ever read the 10th Amendment.  I've stated that fact exactly right here for years, and Roe should never have been decided as it was.  All this decision did was to correct the mistake of the previous Supreme Court.

However, I do respect your admission that the doxing of justices is completely wrong and Biden's DOJ should be out there arresting everyone demonstrating in front of their homes BECAUSE IT IS AGAINST THE LAW, and CERTAINLY after exposing the criminal who was attempting to murder Justice Kavanaugh.  Has anyone thought of the ramifications to the country if he had been successful?  I have!  It would be giving Biden the opportunity to select a replacement for him AFTER HE HAD BEEN MURDERED, which undoubtedly would have been some far left activist who is completely supportive of any and all abortion.  And once the insane liberals realized this, there would have been MANY others who would have happily risked their lives to murder one or two more justices in order to overturn the conservative's decision.  And I guarantee you that most Democrats would have NO PROBLEM WITH THAT SOLUTION!

Perhaps it's easier to distribute a "talking to" punishment. Which one will suffice though? Say a kid steals a piece of candy. You find out as a parent. What is the form of justice you would prefer? Would a talking to be more effective or the other? Would you distribute punishment just for your child to return the candy and apologize? That would be restitution. The best theory in my view would be to raise the child to not steal to begin with. That's probably why there are laws. The act of stealing is met with some sort of known punishment that deters the action.
