Yup. There was a belt of water circling this earth, making it a paradise where the People (homonids with opposable thumbs, grey skin, and very large eyes) wandered the dim and cool surface. These homonids lived for many centuries, and they shared the earth with giant spiders and lizards and bears (Oh, my), and they were at a middling position in the food chain - preying upon and subject to predation by giant mammals, giant lizards and giant insects. The gods left us with the **** real estate, and the lower ranking of their kind were left as hybrids to rule over us. If a lizard were able to live its centuries, it has the genetic information to accomodate greater bulk. The juveniles - and all, today, are juveniles - do not require fins and wings and such to quickly cool or warm their bodies. They are small enough for a patch of shade or a patch of sun to do the job. But were they to begin to weigh a few hundred pounds, they would surely sprout some after-market parts. Likewise, spiders no longer attain their years and bulk. The dinosaurs never left us. They just don't get that big anymore. And the gods never left us, either. They just went undergound.

My grandad talked about things he and his pals had done years ago. Stuff little kids get impressed by.
Long about those teenage years, one begins to wonder how many lifetimes the old **** had...
