I wouldn't mind Unions so much if they really represented their employees but also took the Company's overall need to be profitable into account. But, the mess you just described makes me sick.

The trend in the Building Trades is to bring in construction techniques and materials that take less and less training and skill to install.
Who needs to hire Union Workers to rope a house with romex and plastic electrical device boxes or to snake "garden hose" through the walls for hot and cold water...?
For many years in Japan they have been building hotels with completely pre cast modular plastic rooms that are slid into the concrete shell of a multi story building via crane from the street. these units are complete with plumbing and electrical "quick connects" to the main trunk lines.
They even have molded in furniture...just toss a mattress on top of the molded in plastic pedestal and you have an instant Queen size bed.
All of this  reduces the value and bargaining power of skilled labor.

Yeah, I get all of that, but that's a heck of a lot of injection mold machines, finishing, etc. Is all of that now robotic?  I know small manufacturers still use manual labor to design the molds and man the plastic injection machines. So, jobs switch from being on-site to the manufacturing plant.  I do see that there would likely be a net reduction in jobs available - has to be.  I mean, that's progress.  What is anyone really going to do about things being manufactured more efficiently?

Yep..less demand for 90 IQ workers [and below] but we are increasing our supply of 90 IQ [and below] US Citizens.
