I've been sitting on about a hundred stories for nearly five days now, having decided to take an extended holiday turkey-coma break from the usual madness, and **** news I post about.

It's been a (relatively) slow news week, though I must say it's been a joy to click on my newsfeeds and find sports and Black Friday as headliners rather than usual reich winged venom and hate that America has been falling prey to since the coming of Trump and his MAGAS.

We’re supposed to be able to give patients choices on how to handle high-risk pregnancy complications. A new paper shows what happens when we can’t.

"Without the ability to offer abortion to their patients, 28 women (in 2 Texas hospitals where a study was conducted) had to wait an average of nine days waited for something terrible to happen.

During that nine days of waiting, here is what was achieved for the babies: 27 of the patients had loss of the fetus in utero or the death of the infant shortly after delivery.

Of the entire cohort, one baby remained alive, still in the NICU at time of the journal article’s publication, with a long list of complications from extreme prematurity, including bleeding in the brain, brain swelling, damage to intestines, chronic lung disease. and liver dysfunction. If a baby survives these complications, they often result in permanent, lifelong illnesses.

During those nine days of waiting for an immediate threat to maternal life, here is what happened to the women of that cohort: Most of them went into labor, or had a stillbirth, which meant the medical team could then legally intervene and empty the uterus.

Fifty-seven percent of those pregnant women had some sort of complication, and for about a third of them, it was serious enough to require intensive-care admission, surgery, or a second admission to the hospital.

One of the 28 patients ended up with a hysterectomy, which means she will never carry a pregnancy again.

In assaults, seperate personal (women's right to control their bodies) to assaults on others with an agenda (hey kids, if you don't believe in christ you'll go to hell and if you don't accept that two fathers equals a nuclear family, well, yeah, you'll go to hell).

It's a bad combination of radical white christian authoritarianism, racism, sexism (a consequence of christian authoritarianism), identity politics, xenophobia, and entitlement (as in "I want my country back").

So Americans end up wanting what they want...wanting it right this second...and wanting somebody else to pay for it.

But then...this is a country built on a foundation of the worst combination of philosophies possible...
Puritanism - the rest of you are sinners.
Utopianism - everywhere else is a ****.
Individualism - I got mine, too ****' bad for you.
And...the Manifest Destiny cherry on top.
