The only safe approach is to assume that everything the government does is either grift, graft, or just wrong due to stupidity/malfeasance/human nature. The less the government does the better...the exceptions to this rule can be counted on the fingers of no hands.

I remember a comic named Bill Hicks. He died, because he listened to doctors instead of to me. He and I were in absolute agreement politically. We both felt that drugs should be legalized, taxed, and regulated for the good of society, rather than leaving them to be regulated by criminal cartels AGAINST the interests and wellbeing of society.
But even though I agreed with his argument, I had no respect for his comedy on the subject, because he was preaching to the choir. His arguments were not as fraught with fallacies as were those of the fatty you proffered. But they were still cringy, to me. He was the type of comic who had walk-outs - who attracted acolytes and repelled the opposition. I prefer comics who can make the opposition laugh, rather than leave.
