And yet, a guy with a handgun stopped it.

The problem is not the weapon or how it works.  It is people.  You wish for a total ban, or like European countries restriction, will not happen  here.  

So you had better start thinking of other options.  Most firearms are designed to kill something.

You don't get it and never will.  There is nothing special about civilian AR 15s on the market today.  Maybe for once you can articulate exactly what you think a ban would accomplish.  But I am not holding my breath.

Here are some things that could work to stop the relatively few mass shootings where a semi automatic rifle that looks mean and scary is used.

1.  For under 21 purchasers an extended back ground check.

2.  For ALL first time gun buyers training classes concerning firearm safety, state laws, and proficiency courses.  No testing out. 

3.  Check social media accounts that are publicly available.

4.  Universal Background checks for all other buyers. 

That may not solve the problem but will do more than a faux assault weapons ban.

I did not run from the discussion by hiding behind ST.  What you want is a political win for the left on a topic that is not going to do a damn thing.  You will still have dozens shot on the weekends in major cities, it won't put a dent in the mass shooting rate, and will stop millions of law abiding Americans from owning a particular type of weapon. All so you can say "Look at we did".

You have to post something worth reading.  What are you afraid of?  Your knowledge of the subject is based on half read google search results, talking points, and Anti Gun BS.  My knowledge is based on real world experience and use over the last 45 years. 

You need to go shooting with the weapons in question, Google Boy.  You might learn something.
