You know what's a fantasy? Opening up a two front conventual war against a country with thermonuclear weapons. You know, the ones that burn skin instantly and leave life long scalding scars on those who survive. Of course, the response would probably be a weapon that knocks out all satellite communication which would cripple an entire country back to the stone age and leave whoever they used them on open for further attack. There are people who do nothing but think about this stuff all day. All that being said, even a conventual war, if you took out the nukes, probably wouldn't even dent Russian territory and moral given Putin's poll numbers. 
Sorry sir, you don't talk to the generals and neither do I. That's also a fantasy, but that is probably the stance of Washington on a question like that.
