When I created my first thread on what Republicans are doing to education in America, I called it an assault.

However that assault has since become an all out, uncloaked in dog-whistle subterfuge, WAR... on not only education, but on KNOWLEDGE ITSELF.

Back then I spoke of right wing threats to teachers and administrators as to what could and couldn't be taught, laws limiting and dictating curriculum, hate base demagoguery that demonized minorities, transgenders, and gays, right winged efforts to monitor, police, report, and even prosecute educators and administrators,

and the resultant exodus of teachers and administrators BECAUSE of it.

And NOW that war has ALSO devolved into attacks, intimidation, and even violent threats, directed not only at teachers and school administrators, but toward school board members, elected representatives, libraries, librarians...

and EVEN STUDENTS THEMSELVES.

PG THREAD RULES: applies to this thread as all my PG enabled threads: rational discussions, points counter points, rebuttals and responses are welcome, but NOT personal insults, name calling, fabricating 'direct' quotes, hate speech, drive by **** posting, trolling, and senseless content. Some who've habitually engaged in such have already been uninvited, while others have NOT been uninvited...yet.

Well, if parents want to go over to the school board and talk about what and how their children are being educated ... I do not see anything wrong with that.
You are taking their money and using it in the school system, they should have a say and it is their children we are talking about ...

I think sometime the teachers forget that they are not the parents...

Well, this has been brought up in my first thread on the subject. And to a point it's a valid argument.

However parents also need to realize that a school is comprised of students (well, most public schools at least) from various walks of life. Including some gay and transgendered kids. And laws that directly (or indirectly) demonize certain groups of kids infringe on the rights and well being of students (and their parents) who may not fit into the mold that right wingers are trying DICTATE to schools, teachers, and school boards.

In many of the articles I've posted in various threads on the subject, it has been shown how the ideologies being promoted by DeSantis, Abbott and other right wingers have resulted in bullying and emotional trauma for such students.

Efforts to regulate curriculum under vaguely worded anti-"CRT" legislation has resulted in the banning of lessons and books about notable figures in Black history like MLK, Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglass and the like.

Teachers are being told what personal items, family pictures etc. aren't being allowed in classroom. While concurrently, the right is promoting and pushing their OWN curriculum and ideologies, including mandating that "in God we trust" posters be installed in Texas classrooms.

It is not a movement of freedom nor of acceptance. It is a fascist movement of exclusion, repudiation, and demonization of people and thought deemed unacceptable to the radical right.

Wait a minute.

My role in my kid's education was to enable and facilitate it.

I never spent a minute telling my local schools how to do their job. My kid doesn't struggle to multiply 16 x 7....like the **** of Grifty.

And I sure as hell don't want a legion of FOX nursing cretins involved.

I am not sure I really care what the issue is, if most of the parents in one area do not want the school system to teach it ... that school system should respect the wishes of the very people they are taking the taxes from...

The teachers are not the parents.  I am not sure I have ever saw any personal teacher's items in the classroom, I have in their offices.  A teacher's freedom, acceptance of thought doesn't mean you get to teach sex to my 5-year-old, If I do not wish you to.  I am the parent not the teacher...

I do not have a problem with "In God We Trust" posters, but if most of the people in my area are against it ... so be it ...

If you, the voter, do not tell the school board how to do their job ... then who does
... it is the voters who make that determination

Is there no end to your sinking to new moronic lows ...

Okay. Now you're getting into personal attack mode, and that's not allowed in this thread. I accepted you commentary and didn't attack you, so please don't attack ME. Warning number one.

No, I said you had a valid point. And NO, I'm not against parents' active participation in the education of their own children because I'm a parent too.

But participation shouldn't include threats and intimidation. Participation shouldn't include efforts to demonize and intimidate and OSTRACIZE a vulnerable minority of students within the student body, their teachers, or their parents.

Participation should not include the exclusion of historical FACT under the guise that these FACTS may prove racially/culturally "uncomfortable."

The teaching of America's racist past, and the lingering effects, should not be uncomfortable when the lessons include the TRUTH that people of MANY races worked, fought, and even died, on BEHALF of equal opportunity and civil rights for ALL.

In fact, maybe lessons about certain events in our past SHOULD be uncomfortable - the better by which to HOPEFULLY LEARN to avoid the SAME MISTAKES NOW and in the future.

I don't even know what the means, BV. But you do realize that in order for these PG thread rules to have any validity, I have to apply them fairly evenly to all.

There are some who are banned outright from the jump tho (yes, I keep a list). And that's due not only to the frequency/consistency of their past actions but also due to the nature of them.

My position is the taxpayer and the parents should have control over what is being taught.
