A crowd of Shawnee Mission North High School students walked out of class Wednesday morning to protest teacher Caedran Sullivan, who has been making headlines lately for her far-right claims that the school is indoctrinating students and “white shaming.”

In this week's news, to no one's surprise a Florida woman behind ban of Amanda Gorman poem has links to Proud Boys (dailykos). Daily Salinas, the Florida woman whose complaint led a local elementary school to remove Gorman's poem that was read at President Joe Biden's inauguration, has apologizing for promoting one of the most infamously anti-Semitic pieces of literature ever written (dailykos). Right... You can shove that up yer ***, Karen.

Poet Gorman spoke up after a Miami-Dade school barred elementary students from reading her poem (yahoo) saying “Book bans aren’t new, often all it takes to remove these works from our libraries and schools is a single objection.”

Gorman added: “Most of the forbidden works are by authors who have struggled for generations to get on the bookshelves. The majority of these censored works are by queer and non-white voices.”

And On Wednesday, May 24, the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) released a damning report on the state of higher education in the DeSantis' home state, Blasting Florida’s “Unparalleled” Assault on Higher Education (motherjones)

Meanwhile DeSantis’ anti-DEI law is sparking ‘confusion, anxiety and fear’ among Florida faculty (nbc news). The law applies to public colleges and universities in the state, a third of which are designated Hispanic-serving institutions, where most Latino students earn their degrees.

And in Alabama, educators are being bombarded with complaints. Seem's there's 'Too much Black history' (rawstory). while a Texas a father was understandably enraged after his daughter's private school claimed dinosaurs didn't exist (Mirror Online).

Not to be outdone, Kandiss Taylor, a recently elected GOP District Chair in Georgia went Full Flat-Earth, Saying Globes Are Part of a Conspiracy (Yahoo).

Such is the regular bill of fair from MAGAs these days. As the Washington Post reported on May 23, the nationwide majority of book-banning challenges were filed by just 11 CRANKS (The Washington Post).

Though on the plus side, a Texas Ten Commandments bill went down in flames as GOP lawmakers failed to secure the votes (MSN)

And Amanda Gorman was reportedly asked to read her 2021 poem in Miami after a parent complained 'it’s not educational' (yahoo news)

While a Florida library has been threatened with 'retaliation" (whatever the fk that means) by GOP lawmaker State Rep. Chip LaMarca over its 'I read banned books cards' (Raw Story)

Of course the end game behind MAGA's attack on education, knowledge, and frankly, reality itself, besides promoting RANK IGNORANCE to further enable a FASCIST TAKEOVER OF DEMOCRACY is and always was the defunding and destruction of public education - supplanted with taxpayer vouchers to squirrel their little home-schooled Nazis off to private schools where uncertified 'teachers' can tell their little darlings dinosaurs don't exist.

And btw, neither do Jews, Black people, gays, trans, and immigrants of colour.

As reported, Texas Republicans have just passed a school bill slammed as defunding public education (Raw Story). Their Senate's version of House Bill 100 would give parents who opt out of the public schools up to $8,000 in taxpayer money per student per year to pay for private education.

That's a pretty hefty price tag to learn that the earth is flat and dinosaurs never existed, eh?
