Simply the greatest ever ..... Buddy Rich playing a piece from West Side Story... Keep in mind, Buddy is in his 60s in this performance... His Solo starts at 3:05DeplorablePatriot » 17 May 2023, 7:52 pm » wrote: ↑ Now for some vintage Jazz. As a kid, I first heard this when my parents playing this song on vinyl. These guys were the great. I like the Buddy Holly (the trend then) glass. They look like CIA, DOJ or IRS men, but very cool.

I did see a few scenes from Whiplash, particularly the one you're talking about ---- you can tell it was heavily inspired by R.Lee Ermey's performance as the Marine Drill Instructor in Full Metal Jacket.DeplorablePatriot » 17 May 2023, 8:26 pm » wrote: ↑ Wow, freaking incredible. About gave me a heart attack watching him...brutal!
Speaking of drummers, did you see the movie "Whiplash?"
I really liked it. The actor who played the teacher was like a Marine Corps drill instructor.
I agree. R. Lee is unmatched in the DI role in my opinion. Of course, he had experience.Kobia2 » 17 May 2023, 9:36 pm » wrote: ↑ I did see a few scenes from Whiplash, particularly the one you're talking about ---- you can tell it was heavily inspired by R.Lee Ermey's performance as the Marine Drill Instructor in Full Metal Jacket.

R. Lee was loved and appreciated by all the Branches.... He did a ton of stuff with the USO, and made many trips overseas to visit the troops, hang out and raise morale... The story behind him getting the role for Full Metal Jacket is a good one.... He was actually brought on as a technical advisor to the actor who had been hired to play that role --- But the producer let the actor go and gave the part to Ermey...DeplorablePatriot » 17 May 2023, 9:51 pm » wrote: ↑ I agree. Believe it or don't, I knew R. Lee briefly. Met him on the set of the film "Prefontaine." He was a great guy, had some funny jokes and he hung out with a few of us military guys during breaks. Had dinner with him as well. He was kick-back and not full of himself. Gave us his address and phone number in CA and said to look him up if we ever got down there. I have a group photo of R Lee and our group of active duty guys together.
Sad he's gone. I'd love to see him do a kick *** video on the WOKE. That would be a side-splitter!
And R. Lee didn't use a script. He did his thing, and it was a rap...almost that fast. I heard that the boot camp actors were actually a bit intimidated by this "nobody" at first.Kobia2 » 17 May 2023, 10:10 pm » wrote: ↑ R. Lee was loved and appreciated by all the Branches.... I got to meet one of the most famous Marines when I was stationed briefly at Myrtle Beach AB... This was the Sniper Carlos "White Feather" Hathcock... He was friends with some of our Instructors who ran the Rifle Range, and came down a few times..
Great Hathcock interview if you ever get the time to watch.

Among Edwin Arlington Robinson's many poems-cum-character sketches, there is one titled "Miniver Cheevy." It's about a fellow who fancies himself born in the wrong century, convinced that if only he'd been born in the right time and place, his fortunes would be much improved. Cheevy is not a man to be admired, but rather, to shake one's head at.DeplorablePatriot » 18 May 2023, 8:29 pm » wrote: ↑ When the voice and the singer make you go WHAT?
Not on my favorite list, but just listen to the lead singer's voice. It's a crack-up!

I didn't mean the subliminal messaging, I like subliminal messages in songs, that's what makes them fun... but that's another thing what makes now is eternity so boring, no songs...Nostradamus'omh » 20 May 2023, 9:12 am » wrote: ↑ Are you seriously saying you don't understand the subliminal messaging in the lyrics? party till you drop dead. Music soothes the savage beasts being persuaded to ignore how evolving actually happens. Cultivating a herd mentality chanting a rhyme and reasons to never pay attention to real life.
Remember the age bracket they were playing to. Puberty to adult.
