Gerry Rafferty was Scottish, a wonderful talent, but died young from complications of alcoholism. I'd say he wrote this song about his own life. Seemed like a very unhappy guy.
The sax solo is tremendous.

It wouldn't make sense for a man to sing this, but when I was young, I thought it was a male singer.
Mariska Veres...a Dutch singer.
I love her "I don't give a **** if you like this or not" attitude.

Oh, and please forgive me for using gender pronouns.

Remember that chord pattern we both like..."She's Come Undun" by the Guess Who...Randy Bachman. I'll bet you could have a good time playing this on yer keyboard.

That was great! I assume Randy is from Bachman Turner Overdrive? One of my go-to bands on vinyl at the time. :)

Lucky you!

I've only been to two concerts in my life. The Doobie Brothers in the Seattle Coliseum, 1972, and at Lake Hills, WA roller rink dance, with Marilee Rush and the Turnabouts...Angel of the morning was her hit.
