Maybe a sore neck when he's done.
At least the cat apparently didn't have canine distemper.........?

I guess the mountain lion didn't listen when the guy said "get back". LOL - F-around and find out. That's why you always carry a firearm into the woods. Personally, I would have finished off the cat. It was clearly stalking the man.

He sure took his sweet time in shooting it. One hand, and walking backward - not a bad 1st shot.
Looked to me like he hit the cat with his first shot. And, at that range, I'd have pumped 6 rounds into him before it could flinch. The cat was clearly getting ready to pounce. He must have been holding a camera in his other hand. I would have quickly dispatched that cat.roadkill » 19 Oct 2022, 12:48 pm » wrote: ↑ Didn't look like he was trying to hit the cat...just scare it off. It was probably a young lion that was starving.
Many years ago a lion attacked a toddler near town and killed the kid. They determined it was a young lion that was starving.

That cat looked to be a pretty healthy weight, but I'm sure it was hungry. Only a dumb, hungry cat would stalk a man with a Glock pointed at him.
If that was a bear, he would have been bear-food.
Oh, heck no! That was a pretty big cat, and all he had was a pistol. Looked to be a 9mm, maybe a 40 or 10mm. That cat was ready to attack. It was ready before it even got so close to the man. Once that cat started walking toward me, it would be a dead sack of fur as soon as I could get my sights on the front torso.roadkill » 19 Oct 2022, 1:06 pm » wrote: ↑ I would have fired a scare shot first. He had an auto, so he could have unloaded if needed.

Dead cats don't testify.
I had to watch it several times again - I think you're right, doesn't appear to be hit, or if it was, it was grazed on its left-front leg. Those weren't warning shots - they were misses. He was clearly aiming for the cat. Should have been using 2 hands.roadkill » 19 Oct 2022, 1:44 pm » wrote: ↑ Actually it wasn't a big lion. My brothers used to hunt Mtn lions with dogs. I went along one night and we treed a huge male lion. After it was shot I felt it's shoulder muscles. That cat was hard as a rock...and it wasn't rigor mortis cause the cat was just shot. It was a well fed cat.
Young lions are often desperate especially if they've been separated from their mother. I think that's what we saw in the video. That cat looked lean and hungry but the guy scared it away with a couple of shots. He had time to unload if the cat kept coming. It was clear to me he didn't want to hit the cat. If the cat had been hit it would have scrambled and shown it was hit.

All I can do is tell you what I would have done; and, that cat would be dead.

Who here is going to remember the days when there were no grocery stores, but you had to catch and prepare your own food? Deer? Boar (it's always Boar season)? Turkey? Big Deer (Elk)? I've got to find some new hunting buddies, so I'm not that prepared this season. What about y'all?

That was a funny video - especially the end. The deer (or was that an Elk?) shooed the cat away, but was rather curious about it.

Much bigger than the deer we find down south.
