Here's the question. Does it flame up like then when hitting bone? I'm not too concerned about tin cans attacking me.

Well he was extremely quick on the draw with the buckshot.!
When he saw three porcupines... waddling out from the woodpile to the woods.. he blasted them... buckshot.
My dogs were on the other side of the house..
One dog flew up in the air about 6 feet from the sound....ha ha ha
Then the ol man said... I hope it wasnt the neighbors cat? ( joke)
It wasnt.. but then we had 3 - 40 POUNDERS.... DEAD! to hide.
Hey.. i luv animals... but these f-ers had to go!
You will Not put your quills in one more dog I have owned.
OOO! I will put up with pregnant Coons- Ferril cats- Pigeons and STINKY skunks eating my dog food!roadkill » 30 Aug 2022, 1:40 pm » wrote: ↑ Quills are horrible for a dog...I've seen it...pure misery.
Eradicating coyotes is almost impossible. They are canny little critters who can get by for a long time on little food. But they cause very little depredation against ungulates. Like you say, coyotes are puny.Skans » 30 Aug 2022, 8:37 am » wrote: ↑ Could be. But, we have plenty of coyotes around these parts, not many true wolves though. Coyotes are a bit puny and might not look upon mature deer as a meal. You're right about dogs - overfed pets that have lost their killer instinct. Heck, you could say that about most people too.
That guy should not have a gun.Skans » 30 Aug 2022, 8:53 am » wrote: ↑ To be honest with you, it's not like I have a big problem with this. But, one of the guys I used to hunt with was a big lib, and every now and then he'd preach to us about "ethical hunting". One of his bitches was people who shoot animals where they've been feeding them. It's not like they let cattle have a sporting chance before they "euthanize" them.

Who here is going to remember the days when there were no grocery stores, but you had to catch and prepare your own food? Deer? Boar (it's always Boar season)? Turkey? Big Deer (Elk)? I've got to find some new hunting buddies, so I'm not that prepared this season. What about y'all?
Long ago our Fish & Game Dept. had a law that you could only harvest branch-antlered bull elk.Cannonpointer » 30 Aug 2022, 7:12 pm » wrote: ↑ That guy should not have a gun.
I also have some ethics around hunting. I consider trophy hunting a true crime against nature. But it's not a **** emo position. That guy's argument is pure dicksuckery.
The issue I have with trophy hunting is that it works the REVERSE of natural predation, removing the BEST, rather than the weakest, and thereby diminishing the herd. Want sick, scrubby herd? Arrange for only scrubby runts to ****.
I always hear trophy hunters crying about how there aren't big racks like there used to be. I tell them I have a theory about that. My theory is that some asshole or assholes shot all the bucks with big racks - and I ask them if they know anyone like that.
Biden is an idiot. Biden lies. He tells many, many lies. His sheeple lap it up like mother's milk.roadkill » 31 Aug 2022, 1:12 am » wrote: ↑ He's our president...![]()

The law would have been more in sync with the natural order of those LEAST likely to be taken by natural predation had been protected. But you would have had some mighty messy diapers in the trophy hunting community.roadkill » 31 Aug 2022, 1:17 am » wrote: ↑ Long ago our Fish & Game Dept. had a law that you could only harvest branch-antlered bull elk.
That created a problem because young bulls that didn't have mature antlers created a higher rate of still born calves.
I don't know what the law is these days.
For myself, even though I haven't hunted in years, I'll take the first elk that I can take legally. Get it done take in home and process it. And actually the younger animals are almost always better eating too.Cannonpointer » 31 Aug 2022, 10:16 am » wrote: ↑ The law would have been more in sync with the natural order of those LEAST likely to be taken by natural predation had been protected. The smirk-worthy thing about that stupid law is that it protected the scrubs that no one wanted to shoot in the first **** place. It's like special legislation to protect owners of cocker spaniels from having their pets stolen. Dog thieves are like, "Really?"

I've only shot one elk in my life in the foothills of the Bob Marshall Wilderness. It was a 4 point bull. We only count one side of the antlers here in Montana. My dad noticed that both ivory teeth had cavities which likely explained why you could see the ribs on the elk, so it obviously would have died a painful death later that winter. I felt good about that. I not only got an elk but harvested the elk that literally needed saving. That wasn't my plan, it just worked out that way.

Coincidence? Spiritual law? Depends who you ask.
