Well, since you want to blame this on "global warming", you probably should investigate that a weather event is the culprit!! It's called a "La Nina" and when it hits, the west coast gets heat, the east coast gets rain and it's mixed bag in the center of the nation. And when an El Nino' hits, it causes rain, cold and a lot of flooding and mud slides. Fact is, there is rarely any "in between" on that since the Pacific is usually in one or the other.
