Yes, they knew people would deliberately misuse their products and overdose. Don't see why they would be liable for that. They knew chronic pain sufferers would become dependent on their products as a trade off for no longer being in constant pain. That is common with literally thousands of drugs and procedures. Try going off your anxiety medication cold turkey, that can kill you.
