I love bass fishing, but have never got a chance to travel south where the monsters are, such as Florida.
I did most of my bass fishing in the ponds and lakes of New Hampshire.
My friend gave me a hint. Take my canoe out on this pond at night during a full moon and use a topwater lure.
It was midnight on a summer night with a full moon. I was alone on the pond, and the surface was like glass.
I tied up a large black jitterbug, cast it out and retrieved it with a start and stop series, hearing only a gurgle of the lure but not seeing it.
The water ERUPTED on the first cast!
Fighting that 8 1/4 pound largemouth in the dark was crazy fun. Largest bass I ever caught in New England. That fish tried everything to launch the hook but failed. What a catch. I took a photo of the fish when I got home, and had some tasty, thick fillets for the future.
Try that technique sometime!
