My thought is that its' biological impulses will trump rational actions. Mother nature designs us to survive first. Therefore, eventually the donkey will eat the bale of hay that its biological impulses drive it to.Imagine a donkey placed precisely between two identical bales of hay. The donkey has no free will, and always acts in the most rational manner. However, as both bales are equidistant from the donkey and offer the same nourishment, neither choice is better than the other.
Question: How can it choose? Does it choose at all, or does it stand still until it starves?
I wonder how many Aegean Goat **** starved to death pondering the question.Vegas » 11 Oct 2022, 11:01 am » wrote: ↑ I enjoy thought experiments. Some are quite intriguing. But why don't you make the example more immediate?

Right. The donkey won't realize he is making choice. He will simply pick the one he happens to be looking at, or happens to look at first, when the impulse compels himVegas » 11 Oct 2022, 11:01 am » wrote: ↑ I enjoy thought experiments. As I suspected, you pooched it. The "antiquity" example is a bit different. Therein, at least, the issue is which of 2 equal needs should be satisfied - assuming they are mutually exclusive.
With two identical items as the choice, it assumes indifference is paralyzing to Reason.
I suggest indifference is the absence of consequence or remorse. Given two equal choices, there is no such risk.
