He is taking it personally. You need to understand that he vehemently swears by his media. He will not deviate his thoughts, even to the smallest degree, away from what his media says. Think about it, if you threw your whole entire thought process and way of life into a particular religion, philosophy, or doctrine, and someone challenged questioned, challenged, or trashed it, you may get scared and defensive. That's what that comment does to him. He considers trashing his media an unforgivable sin because his whole thought process depends on them.
