I posted the words from my citation.  You know, the ATF letter.  And the portion you posted says it was a semiautomatic.  DOD does not classify semi autos as assault weapons.

26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions

That contains terminology used by the FED Gov to classify weapons and parts as NFA weapons.  You will not find a definition for automatic or assault rifle. Because they are classified as machine guns.

b)MachinegunThe term “machinegun” means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame or receiver of any such weapon, any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machinegun, and any combination of parts from which a machinegun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person.

Lmao! No, the citation says not.  Civilians can’t own assault rifles.  Assault rifles by definition of the US government are not semi automatic.

And again you fail to grasp simple concepts as explained to you a few times.  In the eyes of the US government, thru the NFA of 1934, and to this day, an AUTOMATIC RIFLE is classified a machine gun.
