"Good morning.....we've come to establish the safety of our new car, the Vega."

"Did you bring a Space Shuttle, to demonstrate that this "Vega" is not a Space Shuttle?"

"No, but we did bring a DVD of "The Poseidon Adventure - The Director's Cut".....It's blu-ray."

"Cool....I'll write a letter."
what the ATF said:

have changed the weapon in basic design to the extent that it is not a firearm in the machine category…”

According to the DOD:
  • Semi-automatic-only rifles like the Colt AR-15 are not assault rifles; they do not have select-fire capabilities.
  •
What the ATF certification said and what the DOD said.  The NFA of 1934 defines weapons like the M16 as "machineguns".

He and Savage also cleared up a point of potential confusion on why the classification letter refers to the AR-15 as an “automatic rifle.”
“It is because (my thoughts) that they sent two rifles,” Stamboulieh offered. “One was an automatic rifle, and the other was the modified rifle made to be not a machinegun (a semi-automatic version).

Definitive proof the AR-15 was never and was never meant to be a “weapon of war.”

So what?

It wasn't designed to be a machine gun.

It was designed to be an assault rifle. Then it was modified so as not to be a machine gun.

**** idiot.

Lmao!  No, the citation says not.  Civilians can’t own assault rifles.  Assault rifles by definition of the US government are not semi automatic.

And again you fail to grasp simple concepts as explained to you a few times.  In the eyes of the US government, thru the NFA of 1934, and to this day, an AUTOMATIC RIFLE is classified a machine gun.

Keep playing word games.

Just to educate you on what we are talking about:

26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions
https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/26/5845

That contains terminology used by the FED Gov to classify weapons and parts as NFA weapons.  You will not find a definition for automatic or assault rifle. Because they are classified as machine guns.

b)MachinegunThe term “machinegun” means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame or receiver of any such weapon, any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machinegun, and any combination of parts from which a machinegun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person.
@Blackvegetable

How did the M16 operate? Just like that:

means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger.
