That revolver would be useless without them.

My friend had to get sewn up after the slide on his High Standard .22 gave him a slice and dice. Held it too high on the grip.roadkill » 18 Jul 2023, 12:18 pm » wrote: ↑ I've been wounded.
Shot my buddy's little 9mm auto today and had my thumb in the way and it slammed my thumb knuckle...ouch!
Got smarter after that.

I did that one time only with a Ruger Mark II Standard.roadkill » 18 Jul 2023, 1:22 pm » wrote: ↑ I know how he feels. My wound is OK already...but a little tender.

Its slide is not edges pointing down so it was more of a slam than a slice.
I never cross my thumb behind on any hand gun. Just a good habit to acquire.
Some guys have some really **** up thumbs due to their "incident".
Teacup ain't so bad. To know it at least...
Little 9mm's can be difficult to shoot.roadkill » 18 Jul 2023, 12:18 pm » wrote: ↑ I've been wounded.

Well, now that the gun broke you in, it probably won't happen again!roadkill » 19 Jul 2023, 10:38 am » wrote: ↑ It sure bit me on my thumb knuckle. I prefer a revolver...they're easier to maintain and shoot.

One of the advantages of a snubby is that you are holding onto more gun than anyone trying to grab it from you.DeplorablePatriot » 26 Jul 2023, 9:34 am » wrote: ↑ I'm pretty stoked! I'm a wood and steel gun guy. although I do carry a Glock 19 gen 5 at times.
So, I finally was cleared to bring home a safe queen S&W Model 10 snub-nose 38 special in blue with matching box. Dates to '67 or '68. Work of art as far as I am concerned. Pics look like some surface scratches, but it's just oil. Not one mark on this gun. Good price too...$550.00.

I (sort of) read this without much interest. You really want an audience but say some weird crap. Ruger makes a Colt? Makes most of your post look like junk.Bruce » 27 Jul 2023, 11:05 pm » wrote: ↑ I own too many guns to count them (I was a Republican until 20 years ago) and if you want the ultimate outdoors handgun, the best in the world, it’s the limited run Ruger 44 Special Flattop.
I own a pair, regular grip 4 3/4 barrel, worked slightly by a master gunsmith.

44 Special factory ammo all sucks. It’s low pressure, even the best.
I bought 1,000 Starline 44 Special cases and I’ve bought thousands of Missouri Bullet Company 240 grain Keith bullets.
https://missouribullet.com/details.php? ... &keywords=
90% of what I shoot are called Skeeter Skelton loads
7 1/2 grains of Unique under a 240 grain Keith bullet
10% I mark with a black magic marker on the primer.
Those are Kieth loads, you look it up. They are hot. They’ll wear your gun out if you feed them a constant diet.
The Skeeter load is deadly accurate to 400 yards, yes, 400 yards.
It runs out about 975 feet per second.
A .357 Magnum is pissy, by comparison.
They shoot clean through a deer.
Why not a 44 Mag?
Weight and size
The Colt Peacemaker is the perfect outdoors revolver.
But Ruger makes a better Colt, than Colt.
Nobody said they have experience with moon clips here. I have none at all. That de-mooner tool makes me think these are pretty good clips/ speedloaders. And not brass spitters.roadkill » 18 Jul 2023, 12:18 pm » wrote: ↑ I've been wounded.

Bill Ruger made a near duplicate of the 1873 Colt Peacemaker in 1955 that was chambered in 45 Long Colt. He then tried chambering his Blackhawk in 44 Magnum and they’d blow up.PlumHollow » 01 Aug 2023, 10:35 am » wrote: ↑ I (sort of) read this without much interest. Why is a Ruger Blackhawk more accurate and far more reliable and durable than a Colt Model P?Skans » 03 Aug 2023, 9:59 am » wrote: ↑ The only firearm that Bill Ruger made, that wasn't just a (total) copy of another gun that was worth a **** was the AC556. No, it's not legos for men, but it is a rock-solid 5.56 machine gun. You can shoot the barrels out, but you cannot destroy these guns. All steel. Compact. Rugged. Select-Fire, (semi, tri, and full). Came in a stainless steel version too, but not really needed. The steel used in the AC556 was good quality. Cons? Magazine was more difficult to pop in and out as opposed to the M16.
On another note, I really like this CZ Scorpian - may need to get one....with the drum.
For self defense - whatever you can carry, that'll work. I know of a cheap low-capacity 9mm that is fits the bill.Bruce » 03 Aug 2023, 1:53 pm » wrote: ↑ Why is a Ruger Blackhawk more accurate and far more reliable and durable than a Colt Model P?
Better steel.
Coil springs
Transfer bar ignition
My two 44 Special Flattops are portable Sharps rifles, on my hip.
A typical Missouri field is 440 yards square.
If I could hit it with a blackpower 45 Sharps I can hit it with either Ruger. I have 12 chances.
My first step father Hadley introduced me to the writings of Elmer Keith.
I’m no Elmer Kieth.
But my kids think I am.
I can hit a five gallon bucket at 400 yards until it’s boring.
Or shoot any squirrel from the tallest tree (which in Missouri is only 20 yards)
If I can see it, I can usually hit it on the first or second shot out to one hundred yards. Sometimes I walk them in like Elmer.
My Rugers would make excellent self defense weapons but I don’t load thousands of 44 Specials for self defense.
For self defense I pack a 1950 Colt Detective Special
I also have a pair of Ruger 380 LCPs.Skans » 03 Aug 2023, 1:58 pm » wrote: ↑ For self defense - whatever you can carry, easily deploy and reliably hit **** at 20 feet - that'll work.
Oh, I like reading the American Rifleman and appreciate their articles on some of the latest guns. Look forward to it actually.Bruce » 03 Aug 2023, 2:17 pm » wrote: ↑ I also have a pair of Ruger 380 LCPs.
What is so wrong with the NRA today is when Hadley joined me up Elmer Keith was an Executive Editor.
To get a firearm in the American Rifleman, required the blessing of Elmer Keith first.
Picture Elmer shooting the latest 9mm Glock.
