Are you aware that the debt ceiling merely deals with PAYING for "credit card" purchases our government - under both republican and democratic administrations - has ALREADY rung up?

Are you aware that the Constitution speaks directly to the subject?

14th Amendment, section 4.  "The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned."

Let's don't raise the cap.
Here is why.
We don't want to go further into debt.
That will hurt us financially.

Why is spending with what we got a bad idea?

anything over 160,000 is not taxed for social security.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------You may not need to pay Social Security tax on all of your earnings if you have a high salary. Workers pay into the Social Security system until their income reaches the Social Security tax limit for that year. In 2023, the Social Security taxable maximum is $160,200. Earnings above this amount are not subject to Social Security tax or factored into Social Security payments in retirement. What Is the Social Security Tax Limit? The Social Security tax limit is the maximum amount of earnings subject to Social Security tax. The Social Security taxable maximum is $160,200 in 2023. Workers pay a 6.2% Social Security tax on their earnings until they reach $160,200 in earnings for the year.

Funny, I've paid 15% my entire life, strange you don't know that side of the equation.....not to mention matching my employee's contributions.

it will help.

the 160,000 cap is way too low and a lot of money could be put into social security without increasing the national debt.

increase the limit   to 200,000 and maybe increasing it to 250,000 at a lower tax (perhaps 4 percent) rate after 200,000.

The Former Presidents Act of 1958 provides several benefits and perks that are available to presidents after they leave office. The biggest personal benefit that former presidents are entitled to is an annual pension equal to the pay for a Cabinet Secretary, which is $221,400 in 2021. Widows of former Presidents are eligible for a $20,000 yearly pension. In addition former Presidents and their spouses can opt to receive lifetime Secret Service protection.Below is an overview of the of the additional benefits for former presidents (a more detailed analysis is available in NTUF's November 2020 issue brief, Congress Should Roll Back Perks to Ex-Presidents Costing Taxpayers $4 Million Annually):
  • Office Space and Staffing Allowances: Starting six months after a President leaves office, the General Services Administration (GSA) provides funding to establish, furnish, and staff an official office anywhere in the U.S.
  • Travel Expenses: Chief Executives and up to two staff members are reimbursed for up to $1 million in costs annually. Spouses of former Presidents also are eligible for up to $500,000 per year for security and official travel.
