That's correct. There are a complex set of factors involved in when one should take social security. You get more money if you wait till you're 70 but then on the other hand you might die. You are taxed on the social security if you continue to work but if you don't work you make less money.

There is a balance to be struck. We did not experience a flight of millionaires during the 1950s and '60s when the top marginal tax rate was 91%. We might now and so it might be wise to balance high taxes on the wealthy with the possibility that they will flee the country.

It's more like almost all seniors. Members of the middle class who are figuring out their retirement count their social security income as a major part of the mix. We paid into it all our lives.

In the 1950s and 1960s the 91% tax was to pay for world war 2  and the national highway system it wasn't that high because we really wanted them that high.  

Sort of like the income tax came about to pay for world war 1.
